Hello,

I took my cat to the vet about two months ago with symptoms like a URI. He was having sneeze attacks, watery eyes and eye boogers and now he's starting to show the early signs again, he's sneezing once or twice a day, and has been wheezing when he sleeps. He purs a lot and is still purring but I can tell he's starting to get sick again.

He has tested negative for FIV and the doctors have said his heart and lungs sound good. Any tips on what I should do? Should I call the vet and try to get antibiotics to fight it early? Last time they did help. Im starting to think it happens when its cold too, it was summer and we had the house cold and now the temps have dropped and its getting cold and he's seeming sick again

I would get him back into the vet.  Have they looked into Feline Herpes?  My oldest cat Reilly has this and has boughts of URI symptoms throughout the year.

He's only 7 months old and was tested at 4 months (when I got him) and was cleared of it. I'm starting to think it might be allergies so I'm clearing anything scented out

Well, I've been there done that with my girl.  She would get well, get sick, get antibiotic, get well, get sick, get antibiotic.  This lasted for 8 months.  During that time, we had the Real PCR URD test run on her to see if any of those diseases covered in the test were the culprit.  Unfortunately, it just showed that she was positive for Feline Herpes.  We finally got a 3rd opinion and the vet recommended doing a culture and sensitivity test  on the snot and drainage.  She had a very serious infection causing the upper respiratory infection.  My recommendation would be to start with the PCR URD (upper respiratory diseases) test and then if you don't find anything, move onto the culture and sensitivity test.  You can also do some things like add L-Lysine to his diet and switch to a grain-free diet.  It's possible that it's seasonal allergies.  With his young age, I'm not sure I'd go for a daily antihistamine, though.

If its feline herpes you can add L-Lysine to the diet as it helps over time to interfere with the herpes replication and can reduce severity or frequency of attacks....
