Hi I'm looking for some advice on a raw/ 50% raw diet for my cats. I've been wanting to feed a raw diet to my pets for a while but not really had any idea were to start. My dogs and cats do get raw meat to suppliment their diet a couple of times a week but would like to make it a bigger part of their diet. Eventually I'd like them on a 100% raw diet but after talking to a supplier just the meat needed for my Labrador and lurcher for a month would more than fill my current freezer and thats not taking into account the cats supply as well. I'm moving in next few month hopefully so I don't want to buy a big freezer yet in case it won't fit in my new house. Any suggestions would be great as no idea what to do ?

It's quite possible; a number of raw feeders also feed canned wet food for a variety of reasons.
I think there is a thread that addresses this, though I can't find it of course!
I would do the math for what amounts you would feed were you doing 100% raw, and then half it. If you do the calculations based on weekly (versus daily) total, that is fine--and won't drive you crazy! Alternatively, you could feed canned three days, raw three days, and half and half the seventh day. You *might* want to/need to tweak the bone amount if your cat is prone to constipation.
Of course I would choose the best quality of wet food you can afford. LOTS of threads about that!
Good luck!

Thanks that definetly helps. Ive talked to honeys again as all there meat is free range or wild and the Price is good, alot cheaper then buying from the butcher like I have been. They are going to send me out a dog and cat taster box which is 3 kg each so should get an idea how much will fit in the freezer from that then make a proper order to see what can fit in. The dogs will probably be the biggest space taker. Ill do some research on good quality wet food, they have been having canagan which they love but does the wet food have To be a Complete food. Sorry im new to this

After three years of feeding raw I just bought a freezer for $50. I only have one car, so the small size is all I need. Remember too you don't have to learn everything all at once, the basics will get you started. As will TCS!

Thank :-) im sure ill get the hang of it with a little help, im a vegetarian so i think i feel a little clueless. The company I've ordered from have included a free raw guide/ receive book and they do a complete raw diet till you get the hang of it so that's a lot of help. When I domy first proper order I get 25% off, so probably a good idea to order as much as I can on first order, they nicely said if I could split the order to come a few weeks apart if I order at same time and still get the discount. Hopefully I can get bye on my freezer for now if you managed 3 years :-) the cats food for a month would fit in no problem and my labs for would probably fit in as well as I don't use the freezer myself often but my 6 month old lurcher will need 16 kg of food a month for now while he's still growing, not sure if it just sounds a lot and will fit in fine or if it will more then fill my freezer with just his food

I feed my male cat Tim about 65% raw and 35% canned and it's definitely doable. His breakfast is roughly half raw, half canned, his dinner is all raw, and his bedtime snack is all canned.

I pay attention to the calories of each food I feed him, rather than ounces as different proteins and different brands have varying calories (I feed commercial raw). It takes some planning ahead to portion, freeze, thaw, and mix, but my cat is so much healthier now it's totally worth it.

Right now, Tim's food is taking up about half of our freezer. I am looking to purchase a small chest freezer to put in our garage for his overflow, as I would like to be able to purchase larger quantities to realize some cost savings. I may consider making his food at some point, but am very happy with the results I am seeing with commercial raw (Rad Cat, Primal, Stella and Chewy, and Small Batch).
