Twister my beautiful cat

Back on July 9th, my beautiful cat of 12 yrs had a had a horrible seizure, fever of 109, took him to emergency, they put him on Phenobarbital, which was working well, then just the other day, he started growling, hissing, didnt sleep at all and I could tell he was running a fever, took him to my Vet, the ran some blood work and his liver level was 598, the vet immediately took him of the Pheno and put him on Denamarin and Amoxicilin 2 days ago, his demeanor has changed completely, and I cant get him to take the pill, IS THERE ANDY OTHER WAY TO GET HIM TO TAKE IT.

I have an appt with my vet tomorrow, they have been given him fluids Intravenously, but I am so sad, he justs sits under the bed growling and hissing and at times wont even let me pet him and that has never been the case.

he is still eating and drinking..

Two ways come to mind. Either get a cat piller or buy the stinkiest cat food you can (Friskies Poultry Platter is a good one) and crush the pill and put it in a little bit and see if he eats that.

Or if you can, get the vet to compound the medicine and use the stinky food method.

Have you tried Pill Pockets? If not, give it a try. Make sure that every part of the pill is fully covered with the Pill Pocket. Rollt he Pill Pocket covered pill in crushed up treats or stinky tuna juice.

Ask the vet if the medicines can be compounded into a flavored liquid or other form for easier administering.

My name is Tina and Twister is my beautiful cat of 12 years, back on July 9, 2014, Twister had a seizure,, I rushed him to emergency and was told he was in pretty bad shape, his temperature was 109. He stayed 4 nights in the hospital and was told there wasn't much more they could do, so they sent him home with a prescription of Phenobarbital, when Twister came home he was partially blind, could not use his hind legs and wasn't able to use the litter box, and was urine incontinence, so for the next month, I spent day and night taking care of him, loving him, cleaning him, massaging him, doing anything and everything I could. within that 30 days Twister's site returned, he was able to walk, use his litter box and even jump on the bed again. then about 5 days ago he started growling, hissing just acting strange, I knew something was wrong, So I took him to the Vet, and they ran some test, Twister's liver level was at an astounding 598 level, my Dr. immediately took him off the Phenobarbital (works very well for controlling seizures, but can cause serious damage to the liver) he put Twister on Denamarin, Amoxicilian and fluids IV. but because of no seizure meds, Twister has been having at least 1 seizure a day. My Veterenarian   suggested I send twister to a specialist for a consultation to see if there are any seizure meds or procedures that can help him and won’t continue to destroy his liver. The hardest part of all this knowing that the liver is a part of the body can repair itself and that with the proper medications and care, Twister could be in my life for at least another 5yrs.

I had an appt for the specialist at noon on Friday Oct 10, but took him in early because he was having another seizure they put him another seizure medication called Keppra. And said we will see how this goes but to really see what we are dealing with he should have an MRI done. It seemed to be working very well as Twister has been seizure free since Friday, but is having some face twitching, restlessness, not really aware of where he is at times, circling and running a fever off and on, it would tear me apart if I couldn’t at least find out what is the underlying issue and if a treatment is available.I am so torn because on one hand he is having these symptoms, but hten is eating and drinking very well.

Twister has been there for me through all of life's good and bad days for the last 12 years and I would hate to know that I couldn't repay my beautiful furry friend a second chance because of financial difficulties.

I f I have to put him to sleep, i just want to be able to hold him again  and whisper in his ear how much he means to me, would it be horrible of me to have the dr. sedate him a little bit so i could have one more night of holding him, because the way he is right now, he isn't allowing that.

I think you are getting ahead of yourself.  First let's see what the results are, then see what can be done before you start thinking about putting him to sleep....OR did the Vet indicate something might be wrong with him that can't be treated? 

Does the Keppra not damage the liver?  IS he now taking the Denamarin and Antibiotic? (maybe you could put all 3 in a gelcap and give them at the same time?)   I wonder if once his liver heals, if you could give him the Phenobarbital along with Denamarin (for his liver) to try to keep the liver healthy, since the Pheno seemed to work well against the seizures and he was his old self on it (I believe).
