Im not sure if I should be worried about my new cat or not. Hes a 8 month old rescue cat who spent 6 month in a cupboard before been taken off his last owners. In the cattery he was begging for attention and really frustrated been in a small space. The first few days he ran around like crazy amazed by the space but more happy getting cuddles and attention. Last few days hes been quiet but not withdrawn, he follows me everywhere and as soon as I sit he is on me, hes eating and drinking fine and using his tray. Hes been fully vaccinated, neutered and been treated for fleas and worms by their vet. Im making an appointment with my vet to make sure hes ok tomorrow. I know it takes a while for a Rescue cat to fully settle at times but not sure if this is normal. Im hoping after stress of been in a pen for months hes just glad to be able to rest. Hard to tell whats birmal or not for this beautiful boy as his last home Was a Cupboard and then a cattery.

It sounds to me like he's doing amazingly well considering all he's been through.  Maybe he was a tad overwhelmed by the freedom and attention at first and, like a person who's been half-starved for a while and is suddenly faced with a banquet of delicacies, he "overindulged" himself.  And I agree with you, he's probably exhausted from the stress of everything he's been through, then the excitement of finding his kitty paradise.  He has to be feeling more contented and relaxed than he knew was possible.  If I were him, I'd plop down and have myself the king of all naps at every given opportunity.

He's such a lucky boy!  Enjoy your new baby!

Now that it is getting colder, enjoy your interactive lap warmer. He is just showing how grateful he is to be in your life, with all the room and love you give him.

Thanks for the reassurance, I think I worry to much. I'm surprised he or any cat that's been in a simlar situation ever wants to be around people again but he's so sweet. He was apparently put in the cupboard so he didn't kill their baby which is stupid but thankfully all the animals are out now, so is the baby. He's so handsome, I think he maybe part Siamese as a wedge shape face bless him. Yeah its nice having a lap buddy to keep me warm, definetly will be spoilt here

Honestly, if you don't have empathy for animals, you can't be a good parent.  I know that might seem like a sketchy correlation, but I've seen it proven true time and time again.  Poor kid!

Good cat parents always worry too much
That's one reason I'm grateful for this forum: the wonderfully wise cat lovers here have saved me from a couple of nervous breakdowns, I'm sure.

Yeah I'm starting to find this is a great place to get advice, even on silly things. At least I'm not alone on worrying about my fur babies. Growing up I was mainly around dogs, horses and rabbit's, very different from cats, saying that I do worry about the dogs in the same way, like if I go out for a few hours I worry about them, especially my Labrador cross as he's a big softy haha feel a lot better leaving him now he has cat gang, all the cats wrestle him, its so cute to watch the cats are much rougher then they would be with each other and Zak is much gentler then he is when he plays with my other dog. Just to be safe he's had a check up at the vet,all seems fine so I gotmy supply of wormers/ flea treatment so it wasn't a total waste of time, always a good idea to get them checked out anyway in a new home I guess even if the rspca already covered it, my excuse anyway

Hi me again. Im really not sure how to help this little man settle in and feel at home. Dont get me wrong i dont want to rush him at all and think hes doing amazingly well and as ive said in post will always sit with me or on me but i feel he may be slightly overwhelmed, ive tried giving him a safe room with everything he needs including regular visits but this distresssd him and will usually end up opening the door to that room and seeking me out but is sometimes tense, hes went from 6 month in a cupboard, to a small cattery so think even a average size room is intimidating. I say this as right now hes the relaxed ive seen him here, totally streched outon me purring away under my duvet and seems happy here. So just want to help him be the funny, confident boy i know he can be

Sounds to me like you are treating him the way I treat the ladies. If they want attention, I give them all they want. If they don't want attention, eh, bye. But if I see one I will say hello and ask if they want skritchies and noogies.
