Litter that is flushable?

I've been using Swheatscoop and like it, but it seems it is starting to attract bugs (which I don't like!).  I'm looking for something that is flushable, not scented, not a lot of dust, and clumping would be nice.  Any suggestions?

Also, is there a good way to change out the litter without upsetting the kitty?

I use Swheatscoop and love that stuff.  About a year ago, there seemed to be a few bags that had little bugs in them, ick.  But I haven't had any problems since then with bugs.  I can't help with alternatives, that's the only one I've tried.

What do you mean by upsetting the kitty?

I use Sweatscoop and like it too, but it does seem to attract bugs.

By "upsetting the kitty" I mean I don't want to change the little if it will upset him for me to change it. Or should I mix the new one with his til he gets used to it.

Oh of course.  Silly me, I thought you meant changing the litter box upset him!  LOL  But you mean would switching brands upset him, right?  

When I changed brands from clay to the wheat litter, I did exactly what you mentioned--I added some of the new to the old and gradually added more of the new and less of the old.  If I'm remembering correctly, it only took about 3 changes of litter to get them used to the new one.  

I use Cats Pride and love it. It comes in the plastic container with the handle. It is fine like sand, covers odors well, clumps, flushes great and has no nasty perfume odors. The clumps dissolve as soon as it hits the water.

You have to turn them around and look on the back of the containers. Buy the one that has the small picture of toilet pipes on the back label, and you know you got the flushable variety. It is around 7.00 per container.

Yes, that's what I meant, changing the litter not the box, I just didn't say it very well LOL.  He's already been through one very sad change with the loss of his friend Cindy, but I really want to get rid of this litter and the bugs it attracts.  I think when I switched over to the Swheatscoop, I did it that way, put that on the bottom and a layer of the other stuff on the top, and it worked out okay.

I don't think it is. I keep it next to the toilet in my master bath which is close to my bedroom and I never have dust issues on the tops of the floor boards around the box.. I always make sure to place the pour spout right on top of the existing litter when I pour it, so it never has a chance to form a dust cloud.

ok, I'm a little freaked out by "bugs" in the litter? I have never seen any.. but that would really deter me from buying it...that's the kind I use! Maybe since I live in AZ and we don't really have many bugs out here is why I've never had them? (just scorpions and rattlers, haha)

so of COURSE y'all had me closely studying the swheatable litter today for bugs and of COURSE I found a couple lil black things...so I took them out but they weren't bugs..they were like a teeny tiny black stone... did you see actual bugs MOVING in yours?

Okay, I didn't mean to freak anybody out.     It seemed like there were a few batches that had bugs--like little meal bugs.  I never saw the actual 'bugs'--there were tiny moths that flew out.  I think there was a thread about it on TCS awhile back.  I had that problem with a few bags last year, but have never seen any since, and believe me, I buy a LOT of that stuff!  

I will only use pine pellets. I get the 40 lb bag of horse pine pellets at Tractor supply cheap like 7.00. I ordered the feline pine sifting litter boxes online at the feline pine pellet web sight. No dust, no oder. You can flush the solids because they stay on top of litter.. I don't though because I have a litter genie that I  bought when I used clay litter. The urine turns to saw dust that goes through the holes in the top box into the bottom box. You take the scoop and rake through the litter separating saw dust  from still formed pellets. You just dump the saw dust into the trash. No more wet muddy mess on the bottom of the box, no more carrying heavy used litter out to trash. The pellets don't stick to their paws so no more tracking. I will never go back to clay again. Pine pellets take all the nasty out of maintaining litter boxes and so much easier!    

Pine pellets only work if your cats will actually use them. I've not tried the horse pine pellets but did get Feline Pine once. I kept the regular litter out and put the pellets in a separate litter box. I think I had six cats at the time. After a full month there had been exactly one deposit made in the pine pellets.

Do you notice any difference in the horse pine pellets from cat litter pine pellets? Different texture, different scent?

 I also don't want to alarm anyone but those are called grain moths and so it would make sense that they might be in litter that has wheat in it. I had grain moths once not in my litter but in my pantry. I went to a do it yourself exterminator store and the guy said that they sometimes end up in grain type foods. He told me when you are shopping look for moth infestation on the shelves that sell rice flour etc.  He told me to be especially careful of the dollar stores. If the store has a problem you will see webbing in and around the packages on the shelves. He said I needed to find the package of food that the moths started in. Sure enough it was a small bag of saffron rice that my Mom gave me from the 99 cent store. I had to throw everything out because they even got into boxed cake mixes and he said to keep food sealed in glass not plastic containers. I had to hang this thing up in the pantry that sterilized the females and spray really well. So when you buy that type of litter check for webbing on the shelf and around the bags. Also if you could find large glass containers to seal the litter in when you store it.

At first I had one box with pine pellets and one box with clay liter. I have three cats and at first they wouldn't use the pellet box at all then they would only use the pine pellets to urinate in they would only poop in the clay litter or it may have been the other way around I can't remember. But after a  week or so I added some pellets on top of the clay and after about 3 weeks I took away the clay litter box and added another pellet litter box and they started using it for both without a problem and no eliminating outside the litter box. I wish Trinity would be as cooperative in transitioning her from  kibble to canned food !

I am sorry I didn't see your last question. I bought a bag of the feline pine to compare but I haven't opened it yet. I am waiting until I am through with the horse pellets. That's another plus the pellets last a lot longer.  I thought the feline pine was a lot more but really it isn't that bad I paid 8.00 at Target for  a 30 lb. bag 6.00 for 40 lb of horse pellets.

Isn't funny how excited we can get over litter  I was on a quest to find the perfect litter bought so many different kinds. Maybe that is why my cats transitioned so easy because I was always changing their litter.
