Found a very small kitten in neighbors yard 2wks ago, taken to Vet twice already. Has bloated stomach and slight case of diarrhea right now. Vet did same thing to me yesterday! Told me kitten could have FIP, gave me whole run down of symptoms and tests and how fatal it is...and also highly contagious...and I have 4 other cats! I was devastated and cried when I got home. I really don't think she should have said anything till the kitten was old enough to be tested...it looks to be about 9/10 wks old now. Cloroxed my whole house yesterday to prevent any unnecessary panic on my part that I may have exposed my other cats to this virus by letting kitten walk around home while other cats were outside...I've kept kitten isolated since finding him. In reading all these posts, maybe he just has a fat kitten belly, (dewormed him twice in the past few wks), because he's eating great, drinking and very playful.

I've never had a kitten that young with FIP though I honestly have not seen it often. Ive had a few vets in the past jump to FIP prematurely though. If the kitten is thriving I would not be worried about FIP if it were me. Many cats have corona virus and even if it were FIP not every cat exposed to corona gets it. FIP to me is characterized by the kitten not thriving and doing poorly among a number of other things when I cannot find another culprit for the condition. Many many things can cause a bloated tummy and I see it all of the time in kittens. Follow a strict deworming regimen and monitor that kitten is gaining weight, not becoming constipated and thriving. Did the vet feel fluid in her belly? If not then I would consider gas and try a tiny drop of simethicone if you do think its gas ( in baby section in drug store labelled "little tummies" as long as your vet thinks that is ok. If she wants to do an FIP titer ( as far as I know that's the only way to test for it) it isn't very helpful because you cannot differentiate FIP from plain corona virus i don't think. I suppose it could yield some answers but it would not be definitive and some of the vets at work think it is a total waste of money.
I wouldn't worry too much but continue to keep a watchful eye on kittens progress and development and keep kitten separate until he or she is healthy as far as you guys can tell, tested for FELV, dewormed and vaccinated.

Also, why don't you request some probiotics for kitten to see if that alleviates the diarrhea. And if you haven't had a fecal done I would do that- while most kittens are covered by broad spectrum dewormers some have things like coccidiosis or giardia that require different medications other than the dewormers we use normally. I would definitely say that money is better spent that way then on an FIP titer and I would do other testing before that became a go simply because other tests can give definitive results. I usually test for those things treatable over things less common that are unable to be treated since testing is so expensive, that way If I run short on funds I have at least covered the ailments that could have been fixed with treatment. Not sure if that makes sense..
