I took my 8 month old female Devon Rex to the vet today after some nightly episodes of coughing/gagging/rapid breathing. Today she had a few daytime one-off coughs. It was very reminiscent of my asthmatic Siamese from a few years ago.
The vet did an x-ray and it showed some circular shadows in her lungs. But what I wasn't ready for was what she called a "bigger than normal" heart. The vet is sending the x-rays to a veterinary radiologist to review. She says it could be a breed thing, but I can't haven't heard of Devons having these issues, so I am understandably upset.
My kitty went home with Clavamox and Panacur by chance there are lungworms - she said she didn't want to miss something simple. She is acting normal aside from the occasional cough - eating, playing, drinking, trying to eat my food, etc. Was spayed on 9/4 and has gained 9 ounces.
Someone tell me not to panic! According to the vet, there is no heart murmur and nothing unusual sounding. Hopefully, I will hear something from the radiologist tomorrow, but I am sure she will end up getting an ultrasound either way for verification.
