I have a female tortie that we rescued from the humane society almost 5 years ago. She has never been comfortable around new people and is easily spooked when they go near her, but we never isolate her unless she draws blood. A friend of mine has been spending the night for almost a week, and Dola will lash out at Nicole completely unprovoked. Last night, she drew blood on Nicole's hand while she was asleep on the couch!

We do have friends that smell like other cats, but Dola never went after them without provocation before. Any suggestions?

First off hi :wavey:

From experience with feral (wild cats) are more territorial than the usual house cats. So what i would do is drive down a petco store and buy some calming stray for Dola! its like spraying prozac on her aggressive behavior

wow.

Sorry you guys are going through this ordeal.

For the remainder of the time that your friend is visiting you, I would recommend keeping your cat away from her. You are already aware that she doesn't interact well with strangers, and I think just being around your friend is stressing her our more and more, and she is starting to feel like she needs to attack to get rid of her.

If you are able to, please keep your girl in a room away from your friend, with her litter box, food, water, and toys available to her, maybe keep her in your bedroom for now.

Try some calming aids to reduce her stress levels. Personally I've used Calming treats, which are available at any pet store, and Amazon. I found they they help a lot. I've also used Sentry Calming Collars. I use them on my skittish girl Jet, and they help her a lot. Best invested I've ever made.

Good luck to you.
