Hello everyone,

My cat, Jaya, has eaten a wrapper :(.  it was a Purina FortiFlora probiotic wrapper. He pooped this morning, which is good, not as big, but it was soft and contained pieces of the wrapper. He hasn't thrown up, and is eating fine, drinking water. He ran around a bit and chased the laser, and he doesn't appear dehydrated. I felt his belly and it was soft and he didn't growl or anything. Do you think he will be okay? I believe he ate it yesterday, so it's been close to 24 hours already and he hasn't shown any severe symptoms...

He should be fine as long as you continue to see pieces in his stool. It sounds like he chewed it into little pieces which is good. Continue to monitor the next few days to make sure he is still pooping. If he stops eating/drinking get hold of your vet right away. Good luck!

I don't know how much he ate of it, those little packs are maybe..1 1/2 inch by 1 1/2 inch, its not huge. He's a big cat, so it's not like he's tiny and that wrapper was a huge piece (like it would be for a kitten). I felt his tummy again, it's soft, and he didn't hiss, growl or make any type of fight. He does lay down, but it's always by his food, he loves to eat. He even went upstairs and tried to eat the other cats food (which he isn't allowed to have, he has crystal problems and had PU surgery). Either way, I will keep my eye on him. It's hard because I spent so much money on him and my other cat has a bacterial overgrowth of spirochetes, which spirochetes are normal in cats, but she is having to be given 2 types of mediciation right now for 7-10 days, and I literally have no money or time to take them to the vet. I know cats do eat a lot of foreign objects, Jaya has eaten string, dental floss, feathers from toys, styrofoam, so it's nothing new. I am glad he passed it, that usually means he isn't completley blocked... :/. The pieces still looked whole, not small, like he ate it in one gulp or something, but I figured if it was really serious he wouldn't pass it at all. He didn't strain in the litter box, it was normal, buried it, walked away, wanted food...

Everything sounds good, I'll pray you have nothing to worry about. He's probably wondering what the big fuss is about! I know what you mean, I just found out my Burt has an enlarged heart, and 400.00 later told there is really nothing to be done except to give him Lasix. Now I'm worried he'll throw a blood clot because his blood is thicker to help his heart. It seems like it never ends!

It's hard, I am an animal lover, 3 cats, 5 ferrets hahah. Jaya has had his PU surgery over 6 months ago, doing fine, had a little UTI, but he recovered in a day or two. Now I have to worry about this. My wife is home with them (and our 6 month old daughter) so she has her hands full. I work 10 hour days, so vet trips are hard, and money is tight. Jaya's PU and all his other stuff were over 2000 bucks, at first he was given a catheder to clear out the crystals, blocked again, had to go to emergency vet, then had his surgery, it was really stressful. He was sitting a bit ago, kind of hunched over, but he does that a lot (kind of like when they sit on their cat perch) but he didn't appear discomforted. He was fine all night, no throw up. Had a pee pee, and ate a bit and drank water. My vet says their behavior says a lot, and when Jaya was blocked (urinary) he was mean, growling, hiding, not eating, drinking, nothing and I know intestinal blocks are about the same..

so far he still seems okay. hasn't throw up, or had diarrhea, lethargy or any shaking or anything. He followed my wife upstairs, slept, seems normal. Not aggresive or howling. I assume if there was an obstruction it would have developed into something worse by now...

Update:

I came home, there was some poop in the litter box. Had to be Jayas, cause my other cat is isolated, and Nermal (female) well she came down late at night and had a poop, and it was really, really, big, hahah (she always goes once a day, at night). The poop really didn't look weird, a bit soft, but brown, no blood or anything. He then ate, peed, drank water,  played a bit and slept. Woke up this morning, he ate, peed and is just sitting around as usual.

He let's me feel his tummy and doesn't fight back, it feels normal, no growling or hissing. Overall, he seems okay. I didn't notice anymore of the wrapper in his poop though, and I am not sure if it got broke down or not. It wasn't really a wrapper, like a candy bar, it was like a tea bag wrapper, like when you rip open a little plastic bag to get to the tea bag, so it was like a thin thin cardboard on the outside and then plastic on the inside, not sure if any of you guys have used the FortiFlora probiotic by Purina, but the ones I have come in little packets, almost like sugar packets but bigger, and have a thin film of plastic inside. I will monitor him for now, but he appears to be normal, no hiding, pain, he appears to be okay. I don't see why I am in a panic, I've seen him eat pieces off a toy, a piece of dental floss (this was awhile back), and he even eats tiny pieces of plastic off grocery bags, which I catch him doing from time to time. He's a little rascal!
