Please forgive this long post but I can't explain it any other way.. I went through a ordeal with Boo, one of my cats who is 5 years old male cat. my In the first trip to the vet Tthey got blood work, all were normal. Hhe did a urine analysis and we found Boo had a UTI He gave him a antibiotic shot for the UTI A few days days later, Boo was still not going to the litter box. Boo went back to the vets and they did x--rays, the bladder was not full, but he had some constipation. He ordered a medication Amitriptyline for the urinary tract infection. Is a pill not liquid and I bought Lax.

craftygalatone for his constipation. Every day I am giving both the medications, the pill for the UTI and he fights me every time when I give the pill oral. I am glad the pharmacist cut the pills in half, but its a struggle to give Boo the pill. I viewed some videos on how to give a cat pill.

I swear the cats in the videos were so serene and looked sedated. It was not way when I try to give Boo the pill. I tried to hide it in the food but discovered that he was clever and didn't eat that portion of food. Well, between the two medications, he is still not himself and moves slowly about. Since I have two cats, I have no idea if Boo is going overnight when I am sleeping. I put a second litter box in another room recently but they are not using it, maybe they have to get used to it.

I read all about the medications I am giving him and one of the side effects for Amitriptyline for the UTI listed constipation as one of side effects. Oh great, when the vet knows that he had constipation, why would he order the Amitriptyline. I am so discouraged about this and tapped out my resources for the other visits to the vet I am lost about what to do next.

I did witness that he went #2 in the litter box, but i took about 3 days to do it even though I am giving Laxatone to him every day

I hear ya on giving them the pills by mouth...ugh. Maybe that's a bitter pill..but for me I was able to break a pill in small pieces and wrap them in Whiska's tenders cat treats and it worked.

Our one kitty had a uti one time... they gave her a shot as we said we cannot deal with meds! A month later I noticed footprints in the litter box again with no potty and saw her in and out... and not to suggest this to you.... but I put apple cider vinegar on the scruff of her neck and half hour later..she WENT! I had read up on it and thought...I'll try it until hubby gets home ..then we'll take her to the vet... but ended up didn't have to! Not saying that was the cure..but it sure seemed like it!

I recently had a problem giving my cat an antibiotic pill for a UTI as well They were also really small (half a pill) but it sucked giving them to her and we were both miserable. It took me 5 days before I got the bright idea to sort of wrap it around a piece of deli ham and hand feed it to her. She devoured it with in seconds. It was awesome and painless and now I will always do it that way.
