We live in a very rural area. Apart from our neighbours (semi-detached house), the nearest other properties are at least a mile away. Most evenings my wife goes for a walk down our country lane. A couple of weeks back she came home and said that there was a bird high up in a tree making a very loud noise, like a cat. Unusually I did not go for mu morning walk the next day, but again she went for a stroll and came back reporting the same noise from well up in a tree. Next morning I did walk and on hearing the noise low down in the hedge, I looked. There was a tiny kitten, screaming blue murder. I tried to get it but it climbed the tree out of reach. So I walked home (about a mile) and got some cat food and went back in the car. The kitten came immediately to hand. So I brought it home.

We have had feral kittens appear before, but this one is too hand friendly to be truly wild. So either someone as dumped it, or dumped a female and kittens and this one was left behind when the mother tried to return home. Sadly the field was being harvested at the time so there is the possibility that any other kittens were got by the combine harvester. We reckon she is only about 6 to 8 weeks and weighted about 800 grams.

Our friendly Game keeper did  put his dog into the hedge for me to see if there were any more in there.

Trouble is our two 5 year old neutered male cats, at very unhappy about her. They are getting very stressed out.

How lucky this kitten, and YOU were, both!

Good luck and much pleasure!
