when does a kitten reaches puberty?

This is quite an embarrassing topic to talk about but my 3 month old kitten had an erection for quite long while he was purring all the time... it's possible that he is in heat? The vet told us to bring him for the surgery when he is 6 months and I'm very surprised that he's having that reaction... I mean he is a baby right?

I'm very confused. When does a kitten starts puberty?

I know it's not common for kittens that young to go into puberty, or start to...but its also not uncommon.

I don't have much experience with intact kitties, until my most recent cat Gunther.

I found him on the streets and took him in at the age of 4 months. Since then he was showing signs of going into kitty puberty. He was starting to fully come of age at 5 months, but the vet would not neuter him until he was 6 months old.

He would yowl all night trying to get out. He would try to hump my female spayed cat. He was SUPER aggressive towards my other cats, and we couldn't even pet the poor guy because he would get "excited" and his penis would be out. If we stopped petting him, he would try to hump/dominate my female cat out of frustration. It was a very hectic time. Fortunately he did not spray (THANK GOD) during this time. 

He was just neutered this weekend and is now recovering.

Try to see if your vet could have your kitten neutered any earlier. Before he starts to mark or spray...because once he starts to spray...he might continue this behavior even after being neutered. Monitor his behavior, and see if he worsens, and express your concerns to your vet. 

Nothing at all to be embarrassed about. Erections are normal bodily functions. I take it you do not have a little brother or are a mom to a boy human .

Erections happen all the time and do not necessarily have to do with sexual arousal. All healthy human men have them several times a night during sleep as the body's way of "testing things out" as do boys. Females have an equivalent thing happen as well without our even knowing most the time!

I would trust your vet about when to neuter and not be worried about it unless the kitten starts acting out in a negative manner.

and @Slykat12 I know having an erection is a normal thing in male humans (lol I'm married, I'm aware haha) but I'm quite surprised because he is only 3 months old!!! My 2 year old cat, started to shows signs of puberty very late, like when he was around 7 months! I didn't know it could start so early!

OK, I'm still laughing.  Let me guess, will he had this erection and contently purring, was he also kneading with his paws.  Even a neutered males can do this.  Just think of it a cat masturbation.   The only one it seems to bother are the embarrassed owners.

my 2 year old cat is neutered and he have never done this so I was quite surprised with the kitten's behavior!

I have no problem with it! haha it's actually kind of funny, my only concern is to take him to the vet for the surgery when he is ready.
