I'm new here, so I'm not entirely sure if this belongs here, or under behavior, but I've been noticing something... off about my baby since he was maybe four months. He's always been.. special, but he never seemed to change, which is the curious part. What I'm trying to say is from the time he was very very little, he always seemed very baby like, naive, immature, but then when he should have went through puberty, no change. Now at a year and seven months he shows no obvious signs of maturity. Oh and sorry for forgetting this but he is NOT fixed. He doesn't spray, hump, try to dart outside, or yowl at night. But I just know there's something more. Other than the things listed, he just mentally seems baby like. I don't know how else to explain it. He doesn't have any physical disabilities or deformities, and other than this issue, he's perfectly healthy. I've looked up all sorts of things, and before I head off to the vet, I figured I would ask around to see if anyone has any type of idea of what could be going on. And for the record he's a medium haired tuxedo, and he's very attention seekingly vocal. If anyone has any ideas, please, I want to know what's going on with my little boy. I can answer any other questions needed.

I'm not sure I see the problem... it sounds like you're looking at this in an anthropomorphic way like a cat should grow up into a very dignified and regal little creature that doesn't whine for attention or play with reckless abandon.

I wouldn't really say this is the case for cats. Cats are cats, and it's good for them to be insatiably curious and boundlessly playful. Our ten year old is very - sometimes annoyingly so - kitten-like, especially in the way he demands attention, and our almost-two-year-old plays like there's no tomorrow. Of course if you compare the way cats act to the way people act, cats are going to seem quite "special" in their own regard.

I would recommend getting him fixed though, even if he doesn't display the typical problematic behaviours.

Perhaps it would help if you described the specific behaviours that worry you and compare them to your expectations of an adult cat.

You are saying his growth is stunted right? He is not neutered? Is he spraying in your house? Does he have big jowls? Does he try to escape? is he kind of slow as a kitten mentally? If so there is something very wrong with a cat that is intact and doesn't act like he is.

In my experience if you think something is wrong, it is. Get him checked out ASAP.

I had a kitten that was somewhat like what you describe and he wound up having FIP. So, I am not saying that is the case with your cat but do get him looked at because if he doesn't seem right to you I can almost guarantee he isn't.

Thank you for understanding what I am talking about. He's about 10 pounds. He's very lanky, long, skinny, long legs. My fixed male is much bigger than him who is five months younger. He does NOT spray and never has, his jowls are rather small, or maybe average, but definitely not large, he never tries to run out, and he never humps. I mean, he never does any of the things a tomcat would do and that's why I am posting. Honestly, I'm not super concerned because he's otherwise pretty healthy and he plays and eats normal, I was more curious as to if it's possible for him to have some type of disability. He still seems very much kitten like. I can compare it to the way an autistic adult is. They may be 20, but mentally they act 8. Well that's how he seems. Like he never went through puberty and stayed 4 months old or less. It's a real head scratcher. He seems happy and blissful. He's always been quite special, and it's made me focus a lot of attention on him. If you could meet him you'd understand. He's just.. special. But he's going to the vet soon for a check up and I will definitely ask them about it.

And for the record, he's getting fixed in November.
