Need advice on wet food alternatives

My cat doesn't drink enough water. I have a water fountain, which is kept clean and I put multiple bowls (cleaned daily) around the house. I have been trying to get her to eat wet food, but she doesn't like chunks and she will only take a couple of licks of pate. She really likes the liquid parts of wet food which would be perfect if there were a wet food out there that was mostly soup. The only option that was truly soup-like that I could find were fancy feast's broths. The problem?  Those broths aren't supposed to be meals and they are extremely expensive. So I have been perusing the internet and trying some other possible options like prowl's dehydrated chicken meals, which she wouldn't even taste. I also tried nature's recipe. My other cat loves it and she had some of it, but once again it's mostly chunks and not enough liquid. So I was hoping someone has discovered a cat food soup that I have somehow missed or have any other helpful suggestions.

Welcome to the site :wavey:

Just an idea here, but how about just mashing the chunks up with a folk and adding some water to the food - and hey presto cat food soup !

I do this for my old girl who had to have all her teeth removed ;)

Yeah, I was hoping that would work too and it did with my other cat, but not with my really picky one unfortunately. Thank you though!

When my cat was having diarrhea problems, I gave him boiled beef for awhile, which was basically plain ground beef boiled in water (nothing, not even salt, added). He didn't eat much of the meat, but he loved drinking the meaty beef water that resulted. Maybe you could make your kitty some warm beefy water to drink. It's no substitute for balanced cat food though. Maybe you could add it to her cat food or set it out for her to drink as a snack a couple times a day if she never drinks water.

I will have to give that a try. I hope she likes it. Thank you. I was reading some comments about wet food and I know I am not the only one with a cat that is a picky eater and likes the liquid part of wet food. I am surprised none of the companies have come out with a meal soup for cats.

I know you said you tried mashing the chunks and adding water, but have you tried adding water to the pate kind? That makes a more uniform soup

I have tried adding water to both the chunky types and pate types of wet food. I was looking at weruva today. My cats liked the bff. I will probably see if I can track down a can or two of weruva to try. It looks a little more soupy than other wet foods, but it would be nice to find one that is more soup than solid.

I'm actually having a similar issue with my little one.  Basically the net story I think is that they have to be transitioned to a suitable (wet/raw) food, because there isn't really a balanced 'soup'.  And even if there were, it will do nothing for their teeth!  So I'm trying to 'outstubborn' my cat with a lot of patience and tricks to transition...all the while trying to make sure she is eating enough.  As you know, it's hard work.  Two fo the most successful tricks thus far (its a long road) are playing before feeding, and chopping raw rabbit (its the only meat she is interested in at the moment - don't worry, it's supplemental, not the full diet) REALLY SMALL, and of course, hand feeding.  Also tempting with a couple pieces of treat (I use dehydrated chicken) can sometimes get her interested in eating the main offering.

One thing she does love, which is lovely and healthy, is 'juice' (aka blood) from meat...little vampire!

So when I make up raw for my other cat, or am about to cook meat for us, she always gets the 'juice'!

Definitely try Weruva, http://www.weruva.com
Many of the cans and pouches are in gravy with chunks or slices of meat or fish. Weuva also makes Best Feline Food which is similar http://bestfriendsfoods.com/
They also make Soulistic which is available at Petco. It also comes in cans and pouches and has quite a bit of broth in it. My 2 love the Good Karma which is shredded white meat chicken in broth and the Harvest Sunrise which is the Good Karma with the addition of little bits of pumpkin added. I buy the cans. They are $1.09 each for a 3 ounce can

Some shredded foods puree nicely in a mini food processor: I seem to recall that Weruva's Cats in the Kitchen Fowl Ball makes a pretty good mush. You could add water or chicken broth (preferably homemade, unsalted) to thin it down more. I processed a lot of foods when our senior cat was very old and ill and didn't want to eat. Not everything processes well (beef shreds, for example) and I'm sure every processor works a little differently but it's worth a try. Good luck!

Another thing you can try is grinding up a little bit of her dry food and sprinkling it on the wet food after you have puréed the wet food. It might trick her into taking a taste of the wet food.

Do you have a Tractor Supply near you. They carry a food called 4 Health. The cashier said that the company that makes that premium food can't remember what it's called wild something or another makes the 4 health for Tractor SuppLy. I find the canned food by 4 health to have a lot of gravy. Can't remember the types I bought  not the pate.

I am not sure, but I bet that shouldn't be too difficult to find out.

Tractor Supply sells Taste of the Wild. Is that what you were referring to? Here's the link to the canned at food they sell. Just click on the change store at the right to find one near you. They also have good prices on litter. Their Paws and Claws brand has been recommended by people here and It's quite reasonable.

Yes that's it. The food is called Taste of the Wild. 4 Health is supposedly made for Tractor Supply by the same company. I find 4 Health canned food to be pretty soupy. But as I read on throughout .the thread you seem to be looking for soupy 4 Health probably doesn't fit the bill either.
