Looks like a variety of a Quince.

You can't eat it raw.  Far too astringent. They look like apples inside.  A bowl of them sitting out will give the house a nice odor. Makes good jam.

I don't think I've ever heard of a quince! It must've been dropped by the farmer's market earlier

I thought fig also, but it seems to be a lot larger. Then, I noticed a third photo, which I guess I didn't see before (my laptop is having issues downloading pix).  It could well be a fig but the seeds don't look like fig seeds.  An heirloom tomato is a good guess also.  Def not quince.

What did it taste like?

I'll throw my vote in for a green tomato too. Homegrown tomatoes are frequently shaped funny, and the inside looks tomato-y.

I didn't taste it- I didn't want to get sick from it! It didn't have much of a smell to it

From the inside, I'd say it was an heirloom tomato.  My brother gives me tomatoes off the vine and some have really super odd shapes.  The inside definitely looks tomoato. I would have eaten it :)

From the side it looks like a face with a squinty eye and a pointy nose. Kinda like the character Mike Wasoiski in the movie Monster's Inc.

My first thought was tomato, even before I saw the inside.
