Scooting on the floor

The other day Bella was using the litter box and when she finished she covered the poop but then scooted her butt on my floor and left tread marks on my floor. She has never done this before. As I was cleaning the mess up, she sat there and looked at me like she was so sorry she did it. I had to laugh but tried not too and I think she knew she did something wrong. My question is this; why do cats do this and has anyone ever had this problem too ?

I have personally only seen this in a cat with tape worms. If you are positive she has no worms, then maybe she just had a little bit still stuck to her? 

Constipation, impacted anal glands, worms...there are many causes.  A vet visit is probably the best way to determine the cause.

My cat has done this too, she had poop stuck on her bottom, she's a semi long hair (happens sometimes). If there are no health issues as someone else mentioned then I think this is what's happening. Luckily I have hard floors downstairs so it's easily cleaned.

I have one that does that.  He's got anal gland problems.  When he went for his check in August, the vet tech had to express one of his glands (not pleasant for Sam or the tech  )  I've since been giving him canned pumpkin with his wet food and it does seem to help it a bit.  Though I have seen him scooting on the floor so maybe I need to take him to the vet again.  Not an easy thing to do since Sam knows where he's going in the "scary box" and will run..........

I had that problem with the anal gland over 20 years ago. I had them removed. I wouldn't do it now.
