my cats gone missing

My cat Russell has been missing for a month now. We have had him for four years and he has never done anything like this before. My cat would not have gone to another family, he loves me and he follows me everywhere even to the shops and back, he even waits for me when i get home from school by the front door no matter the weather. He is eight years old so he wouldn't have gone missing because he knew he was going and we have checked every ditch and wooded area and can't find him, i have put up posters and we had a couple of calls but no luck. I was wondering if anyone as seen him? hes ginger and is wearing a black collar and has gone missing in the welwyn, Hertfordshire area.

Sorry to hear that you've lost Russell. If he has outdoor access it's unlikely that he's got lost, he might have been displaced for some reason. Have you tried calling the RSPCA, the PDSA any other animal shelters in your area? Have you put up posters in all the local vet's offices? I hate to say it, but have you contacted your local council to see if they keep records of animals that are killed on the road? You could ask which section is responsible for dealing with this in your area, sometimes it's refuse collection sometimes highway maintenance. Some districts keep records.

@Norachan  yes I do believe her answer is pretty much correct. You should contact your local animal shelter, and put up missing cat posters - maybe on the road, or at your local pet store, and your local shelter. I'm sure he will come back, not every adventure last forever.

A lot of places have lost and found twitter accounts. A number of animals have been found locally using twitter. Post a pic, give general information about location and yourself only.
