I guess this is a two part question. 1. How safe is it to use flea treatment on a pregnant cat. Not sure how far along she is. It's visible from a far and I've seen them kicking.

2. What happens when this cat gives birth on my property. The law in pa states animals are property. She's here every day drinking out of sand toys the kids leave out. So of course I've been giving her fresh water when I see her. She's not malnourished so I'm guessing they just let her roam the streets when she feels like it. Humane Society told me the last time, this is cat number three of theirs I've fed, I can surrender her for $25, hah! She's not mine and I'd like to not be on their black list. But if she gives birth here, I'd like not to foster flea babies.

Not all flea and worming treatment are suitable for pregnant cats. You would have to get from from a vet - the same goes for a Nursing cat. If you intend to look after the cat the only thing you can do is provide somewhere safe, dry and warm for her to give birth with news paper and towels etc and maybe advertise the kittens to good homes when they are old enough. Maybe charge a fee for them to reimburse you. Also this cat needs to be spayed to prevent this happening in the future. Is there nowhere in your area that could provide financial assistance since you would be doing everyone a favour if you did help with this cat? I am not a fan of handing over kittens and cats to cat/dog shelters as often euthanization is involved. I know a woman in my neighbourhood who currently has 18 cats that she looks after and personally paid for them all to be spayed and neutered and they were all originally strays. I know not everyone can do this but God bless anyone who tries to help in this way.  I know this is not your cat but clearly her owners are not responsible and should not own any pets if this is how they "care" for them.

Well, there is a group but they only take feral cats. Now I can get her spayed for free through our city. BUT she 1. Can not have any fleas and 2. Needs to have her shots. I have zero issues getting her shots. It may cost$20 total, but spaying with out vouchers will cost me close to $200 because she's been pregnant(too far along to abort and sorry I just can't anyway)

I called the humane society in hopes they'd, oh I don't know, forbid these a'holes from having animals. There was no help, no offer to give me contacts of those that could, just gimme money.

I'd like to just take the kitty to my extra bedrooms and let her live comfortably, eventually finding a home... I can't find specific laws saying I can and like you said shelters aren't the best alternative.

I think I just rambled on but I'm so sick of these people! I have two amazing cats. Pirate is a shelter kitty and Tink a side of the road kitty. They are never outside! And fixed. It's not that hard!

There should be more help to people like you. If I were you I would just take the cat inside and care for her til she has her kittens. Get the kittens rehomed to nice families, get her shots and flea and worming treatment from the vets and them have her spayed for free. It sounds to me like your neighbours won't care if they don't see her again anyway and you sound like a decent kitty owner! I would never normally be an advocate for stealing a cat but they aren't caring for her anyway and if nothing is done she will probably be back out on the street in a few months time pregnant again!

I wish there was more help. Even the catch and release people were upset with me for calling the Humane Society. I've never dealt with this before and didn't know they would kill them. Truth be told, one of their cats is now feral with a broken leg that healed folded IN HALF. He probably needs put down. And they deleted me off of Facebook for saying so. I just don't get the catch and release thing.

Anyway, what about dawn? Or is bathing her while pregnant also a no no? I've done that with a kitten before that was too young and then just hand picked the eggs.

The only thing I could suggest is to get a jug of warm water and add 4/5 drops of tea tree oil and then get a flea comb and just comb through her fur getting rid of the fleas as you do and also that way you are applying the diluted tea tree oil to her fur that the fleas will not like. Check with your vet or online if you need to but as soon as the kittens are born treat her with Advantage which is a flea treatment used by most vets (in the UK) and then check what age the kittens need to be before they can be flea'd too. You can also worm her with Panacur Liquid once the kittens are born (not sure about whilst she is pregnant) and the kittens can also be wormed with that once they are 3 weeks old - the usual dosage for kittens that age is 0.2 mils for 3 days in a row if I remember correctly. I really would just steal the cat if it were me and take her inside (they don't need to know you have her). And letting a cat with a broken leg go without treatment in just inhumane! Poor thing must be in agony!

I also forgot to answer part of your original question which is that once you can see the kittens move for the first time it is usually about 2 weeks until they give birth :)

You can flea treat her now, sure. It's actually best to do before her kids come, otherwise they will be flea infested and become anemic.

You can not however vaccinate her now.

Since posession is 9/10's of the law, why not simply take her to be spayed now? Or did I read that you can't do this?

If that's the case then why not bring her in to your home into maybe a spare room, where she can be flea free and cared for until she has her babes?

Then you will be hanging on to her for a couple months afterward to so she can care for the kids then be spayed.

Regarding the poor guy with the self healed broken leg, how sad. The leg would need to be removed if it is not getting enough blood or is causing pain.

BTW, please use advantage 11 flea treatment, not a store brand like Hartz. Never.

I have looked it up and apparently Advantage Flea Treatment is suitable for pregnant cats so get on amazon (its much cheaper) and order some and hopefully you can treat her before the kittens arrive. If you bring her inside be sure to get something to treat the carpets/floors as you don't want any lingering fleas hanging around that way. To be safe I would get the Advantage that is for cats 4kg and under.

Ok, so I have two weeks to get rid of fleas. Sigh.

She can't be spayed now because no one will do it without shot records and with her having fleas. Which doesn't matter as I just couldn't live with myself aborting them. Spaying her after would be no issue as my extra room is actually a finished two bed attic. She won't escape.

Now, rehome her too? I can't keep her.

If they would just get a new cat if you re-homed her, it might be best just to spay her and let her loose again (after healing of course). That way they wouldn't feel the need to get a new cat, and at least she would be vaccinated and wouldn't be popping kittens out every few months. If they keep getting new unspayed cats, you'll probably be raising a new litter every spring and fall :/.

That is a point. I wonder if I offered to care for her, spay her and return her if maybe I could educate them? It's silly to not spay your cat here. It's free if they have all their vaccinations! I just don't get it. I understand you get busy and accidents happen. But keep the cat indoors!

I'll bet you just might have the best idea here!

Unless that is if they happen to be the type who likes their cats reproducing constantly, there ARE some out there like that too, as you surely know.

Hopefully not, sounds like just irresponsible.

I'll give it a try. Thanks everyone. I'm sure I'll be back. My four month old is a bit mischievous. She'll raise some questions. Haha

If you do end up keeping her or caring for her and the kittens be sure to let us know how it turns out and we`ll want some kitty pics :)

Wow I did not know that as my friend and I used it on her cat and it seemed to work well with no harm to the cat. We did use a large jug of water with just a few drops in though, I would never put any oil like that directly onto an animals fur/skin. I will deff look into it.
