Cat Scatching Under Door and Night Keeping us Awake

My six month old kitten has developed a new behavior in the past week or two that is making it impossible for us to sleep. We close the door to our bedroom at night (my partner has allergies, also when we have let Casper in at night he just pounces and plays), the door itself has a rather large gap under it that allows Casper to stick his paws through. So he's started sticking his paws under the door, loudly shaking it and scratching the door. We never reward this behavior with a response or with coming out of the room (or any meowing at the door at night) so that he will not see it as a way to get attention. Up until now it's worked, but now he's become very persistent and will go on all night.

I've tried putting stuff in front of the door but he can move most of the things and I am concerned about it being hazardous in the event of a fire. Casper has playtime 2-3 times per day and the last one is at night before we go to bed. We play for a while (at least 30 minutes) and he usually seems worn out but I can only get him to the point of panting sometimes. After playtime he gets his dinner. I think he's doing it because he likes to go where I do.

I am looking for something to prevent him from clawing and shaking the door at night, so that we can get some sleep. Any suggestions?

Sounds like a tough one. Even if you put something under the door, wouldn't he just scratch at the door? My only suggestion would be to wait it out.. Maybe earplugs would help until it passes.

You want him to sleep during the night rather than be up.

I would either crate him during the night or close him in one room for "bedtime".

They do learn this well, All my cats sleep during the night thankfully!

If you take access away from the door the problem will be gone :)

Is he wanting food or attention? You could try feeding him just before bedtime. You could also try leaving some toys outside the bedroom door, I found that works quite well.

You could also get another kitten, same age, opposite sex. They will keep each other occupied and out of your hair :)

I hope he is fixed.

Ok - I found your solution.. here is the product and here is the video of it in action.  It is a clear mat which delivers a static charge.
