My cats, two spayed 8yo females who grew up together, have always gotten along fine. Even after moving to a new place they settled in well and everything has been perfect.
I got the opportunity to move into a bigger house and took it, so twice this week I've had to keep my cats in a big dog crate while my landlord gave a tour of the house for future tenants.
It's out of the ordinary for them and caused them so much stress that they fought for the first time EVER. Now one of my cats can't be in the same room as the other without hissing, growling, and running away. My other cat doesn't reciprocate any of the aggressive behaviors, she just minds the warning and backs off.
It's been two days and she's still hissing and growling at the sight of her. I don't know what to do...
I feel terrible because I'm the one who had to box them up together. Needless to say, they'll be crated separately from now on. But how do I get my cat to trust the other again?
Since they've always gotten along well until recently, I really don't know how to fix this, and it's honestly very heartbreaking.
