My girlfriend has had a cat for roughly 5 years, it was alone until two months ago when she fell in love with a one eyed cat at a rescue.

We introduced the two using the recommendations I see in many of the posts here and other then a few pats at each other they seemed to get along.

Now, we have developed a problem after the introduction. The original cat is not eating all of her food. We think this may be because the new addition  - a mistreated 4 year old - likes to go after any food available. Especially the original cat's food. So now, we separate them when feeding but it seems the anxiety of thinking the other cat will come for her food,  leaves the original cat from finishing her meal.

The vet doesn't believe she is sick, and it seems to be  purely mental on the original cats part. I tested with some tune...she eats every drop of that. But, we know Tuna is not good for the cat...just tested the theory that she can still eat a whole bowl of food. We tried different science diet cat foods...she still eats some and wanders off from her bowl. She never had problem with the cans of food before.

As for the two cats, it still seems they original cat still doesn't like the idea of a new cat. Yet we catch them touching noses and playing every now and again. We have never had a real cat fight between them. But I think both have some alpha in them. But the eating issue happened a few weeks after they began co-existing.

I went through some of the forums here but didn't see out exact situation. I apologize if one dealing with this, exists but if anyone have any thoughts about ways to work on this, please let me know.

We now feed the original cat in multiple sittings so we know she is eating enough...but want to get her back to her old finish the bowl dry way of living.

Thank you for your time!

Welcome to TCS!

It sounds to me like things still need some time for them to settle.  It's normal for it to take several months before everyone is accustomed to one another.

I would keep doing what you have been with feeding them separately and giving the original cat several small meals.  Over time hopefully you can say decrease lunch by a little while increasing dinner or breakfast.

Good luck!
