Should I add another cat?

Hello everyone,

I have two cats and they are siblings (male/female). They are a little over a year old. Pi (the male) is very energetic and loves to play....with someone. He use to be easy to play with and tire out to the point where he would start panting....but he still didn't want to stop. I personally believe he has decided that in order to prolong the play sessions he would play in a very lazy way. He doesn't really run after objects anymore like he use to but when he does run it's more a trot then a sprint. In regards to health he is perfectly healthy. Please note that I don't mind playing with him, it is just frustrating that he would lay there as though he is done playing and then within a minute of walking away he is meowing constantly to "play" some more.

His sister (Zeta) is a very normal cat when it comes to play sessions and she will sprint and jump after toys, etc. The problem I am having is that my male cat also loves to wrestle whereas his sister does not. This tends to lead to fights between the two. Other than this they get along very well.

I have bought big mice for him to wrestle with and stuffed socks with cat nip for him to wrestle with as well, but he tends to get tired of his toys very easily. I've hidden toys that he is tired of for weeks but when i bring them back out he remembers them...which doesn't make sense, i know.

So my question is...would it be a good idea to add another cat or two to this mix to stop the fighting? Hopefully I could pick out at least one who is just as energetic as he is and loves to wrestle as well. I'm thinking two so that the new kitten would have a sibling and not be the odd ball out. I'm also thinking of another male/female combo so that there is an equal number of both genders.

Thank you for your time

In my experiences with cats, there is usually only room for one 'queen' in the household, females seem to fight a lot and don't get along with the males much either, they are true 'divas'! I think you would be great with two males, they could play with each other AND your other male. Your Zeta would be perfectly happy to tell all of them what to do.
Good luck and keep us posted on how you do!

Thank you for your insight! :) You are right, Zeta does push her brother around so she may not want another female trying to push her around.

It's a relief to know that it's possible to help Pi play the way he wants to play. I will let you guys know how it works out! Hopefully, we would be able to get the new kittens within the next year. :)

UPDATE:

We finally adopted another boy cat. His name is Nyanta. :) Things have been going great, it is like he is filling a void we didn't know we had. We were very lucky to get Nyanta because most of the shelters did not want to give me any cats because I was pregnant. Even though it has been hard with a newborn, we have been able to find time to play with all three cats as well as spend time with my little girl. All three of my cats love her. I hope they will still love her when she starts the "pulling tails" phase...that's going to be a fun phase...

Nyanta is the Orange Tabby in the back and Zeta is the white/black one.

Oh he is gorgeous!!! You know seeing that "scratch lounge" he is in I feel a lot better. I have had those for years and one day when I was moving it I noticed the directions said to remove the front and back panels. I must have gone through 20 of these and never noticed the directions to remove the panels. I see yours are still intact so it clearly wasn't just me!! You'll get the stretched out cat pose in it if you remove the front and back panels FYI[emoji]128512[/emoji][emoji]128512[/emoji] good photo ops!!

Thanks for the info! :) I wish I could find more of these because sometimes all three of them want to be in it at the same time. lol Maybe I'll find it online somewhere. We ended up attaching two of those couches that Zeta is in to make one big scratch box. They love it, especially Nyanta. He would roll around in it scratching everywhere.
