I am purchasing some glucosamine for cats and here was one suggestion how to get them to take it if they are super finicky about having it in their food. I found this interesting and maybe it would help someone disguise meds?

Purchase some Brewers yeast flakes, which are usually available at health food stores and some grocery stores. Mix the contents of one pill with an equal amount of the yeast flakes, then mix that with a little water until it forms the consistency of stiff dough. Make this into pea-sized amounts with your hands. I have never had a cat that would not go absolutely nuts over these little "treats." In fact, most of the cats I have given this to start to beg for it after a few days! It only takes a couple minutes each day to prepare.

Our vet even began using this to pill some cats!

You can make up three or so separate amounts and refrigerate them, but more than that and it will mold.

(There were several replies to the above method stating it was nothing short of a miracle for their cats who always turn up their noses to meds)

I'd want to make up some without the pills first to see if the cat would eat it. Most of my cats totally ignore treats and I'd hate to waste a pill just trying it out.

Mine didn't like pill pockets at all, but she did like the whiska tenders.. so wrapped it around the pill and bingo!

I'll have to try that. At the moment I've got one cat that needs pills three times a day and another that needs to be given pills twice.  Anything that would make them take their meds of their own accord, rather than having to force them down their throats, would be great.

I also read that cats and dogs really like the taste of yeast flakes (either nutritional yeast or brewers yeast). I tried them as a wet food topper for my Boo who is being super finicky lately.

Be forewarned: cats can have a sensitivity/allergy to yeast. Be especially cautious if your kitty has had yeast-based ear infections. Within a few days of me using the yeast flakes as a topper (he did like it by the way), he was scratching around his mouth with his back foot so bad that he tore the skin and it was raw and bleeding. I stopped the yeast flakes, obviously. But I had to clean the wound and put a soft collar on his neck for a couple days. Boo seems to be particularly sensitive in his old age, but I just wanted to mention it in case your kitty gets a bad case of the itchies after giving yeast flakes.

P.S. These types of yeast are relatively high in phosphorus. Also something to be cautious about if you have a CKD/CRF kitty.
