I brought a new feral in my home. Not sure if it is stray or straight feral. He was neutered today along with all shots and tests. Went crazy first out of carrier. A woman had been taking care of him somewhat outside and had a couple points of good human physical contact. Very crazy mixed signals. He wants to trust me have been able to pet him briefly with the help of catnip and wet food! I'm staying in his personal bedroom tonight trying to show I'm not a threat. I've paid no attention to him since last contact that was stopped abruptly by him. He's not hiding is laying on floor completely relaxed sleeping. Ive tried not to make sudden movements and wheni do move or make a noise he looks up and goes back to sleep. Is this a good sign?

I think phoenix has to be a stray no way a feral.is sleeping in the same room with him a good idea? Do you think he'll attack me while i sleep. Im not afraid of him and show no fear and he's shown no aggressiveness only a couple growls and a hiss at my husband.

This is a spoiled stray he has a twin bed nice blankets and a full bedroom to himself. I just want him to be happy. He's not flighty just a little over observant at the least.i guess. But for the most part very calm now.especially after being tramatized at the vet.

He's not really feral. Otherwise, he would have hidden or reacted more to your presence. His behaviors so far sound like he's adjusting to the new situation. Take it slowly, don't force him; it sounds like you already know that, so keep doing it! I have slept in the same room as fosters and they have often ignored me. I doubt seriously he will attack.

Thank you for helping him. It sounds like you were just in time.

When first brought home from vet he really went crazy head first into window tore blinds luckily he settled down. He's hissed at my husband and i but never acted aggressive. He'll smell food in my hand and we didn't really pay attention to each other i just kinda leave hom
Him alone and vice versa. His eyes get super dialated at times. He bas slot of mood swings. I turned on classical music and sat with him for hours on in today. He lays in the window now i guess thats his secure spot. I sit about 4 feet from him and laid on the floor 2 feet away from him today while he slept. I haven't pushed my luck just trying to build trust. Im able to put food by him but thats about it. He gets up at night to drink and eat and use potty when all light is gone. I think he'll be a good boy. I think someone had him and threw him out once he hit puberty thats usually what happens. Stupid people. The vet said hes 3-4 years old. So i think hes been out there quite a while who knows. People get all these "free" cats and dont vet them or take care of them and when they start spraying or are in heat howling throw them out! They aren't cute kittens anymore! Poor babies! Thanks for the reply. Im sure all of you on here will hear more from me obsticals are in my future im sure of it! :-)

Hi Phoenix Mommy,

I saw your post and was wondering how your kitty is doing.

I also took a feral cat home about a week ago, so I'm always curious about the progress, especially that your kitty behaves very similar to mine.

My cat is about 7 years old, but I've known him since he was a little kitten. At that time, he had a cat-family, which I've been taken care of.  So at that time, I did not try to break the family. I fixed and vaccinated his whole family, but they lived together outside. Since then, he lost all of them and was mostly hanging outside my front door, meowing.  So I decided it was time to bring him home, since I did not think he can survive through the winter (I posted my story under "My feral black cat I took home - Salem").

Salem "scaled the walls" as well when I first let him out in the room. I was able to save the blinds only because I pulled them up. But he destroyed the carpet by the door. Someone suggested to put the plastic thing in the entrance, which people usually put under the desks and chairs in the office. But it was too late to save my carpet. Now, he calmed down and, like your kitty, he is more relaxed. I can sit about 4 feet from him and he is OK with it. But he still hisses, if I come any closer.

So how is your kitty doing? Did you progress with him? It's been over a month since you took yours home, so please let me know how it's going. Thanks.
