Hello! My name is Bo and I found my precious girl, Lola the day she was born. Mama cat abandoned her and another kitten and unfortunately the other kitten was taken away by a male that lives on our ranch. I saved Lola and hand raised her, not knowing if she would make it, and today we celebrate 7 weeks of healthy life!! She went in today for her first deworming and shots. She was not happy with me, but tonight she is pretty sluggish and cuddly. I don't mind the cuddling part, but I asked the vet if I should be aware of any symptoms from the shot and he said no. He didn't give me a sheet showing what shots he gave her. It was just one shot that he said has multiple things in it including distemper. We just moved towns before I found Lola and frankly, I miss my old vet. This guy is very vague and doesn't give me as much information as my old vet did. Is it normal for kittens to be kind of down and sluggish after their vaccines? It's been 5 hours since she got her shots.

The vaccine she received was the FVRCP vaccine. And, yes, it can make cats/kittens sluggish (much like kids get after vaccines.) Rarely, vaccines can cause fever and vomiting.

So long as your little girl is eating, drinking and using her litter box, all is well. I suspect she'll be much better in the morning. =)

It's very important for kittens to have 3 rounds of that particular vaccine. She should have 2 more rounds about 3 weeks apart.

As long as the only symptom she has is lethargy she is fine. If she is eating, drinking, and using the bathroom there isn't a problem. If she has a fever or stops eating or drinking or vomiting take her to the vet straight away.

Thank you! We already have a next appointments scheduled and she is back to herself, running like crazy and terrifying the dogs. All is right in her world again
