Hello,

I've just gotten back from the vet and they said Lucy has 5 days to live unless they perform a surgical removal of the stomach growth. She is unable to eat and is slowly starving to death :(

It is a very painful time for me. I've had her for 1 year as my roommate, companion and a friend. She had showed so much love to me and I want to show it back to her. The operation is very expensive, $3,000. I've managed to collected $1,200 already but still need $1,800.

I'm going through forums now and reading what people have been saying and i'm just at lost to what I should do. I can't afford the operation. I've started a fund raiser but it doesn't seem to be going anywhere...

If you have any advise for me.. perhaps alternative and natural remedies or other help that comes to mind, please post here. I really appreciate it.

If by any chance you are led to help her, here's the link to the fund raiser:

Thank you,

Alex.

Welcome to TheCatSite. I'm so sorry your beautiful kitty is sick.

This notice is posted by the Mods in all threads asking for donations and is not directed to anyone specifically
Pleas for Money
If you read about a plight of an animal on the internet and your heart is drawn to help, check out the story thoroughly. Google the vet's name or call Directory Assistance in the city and be sure this is a legitimate claim.

Do not blindly send money into a paypal account no matter how heart-wrenching the story. Instead reach out to the member and ask for the vet's name and phone number, and arrange to send the money there for the specific needs of the cat in question.

I'm sorry to hear about Lucy, that's so sad. :(

Do you think your vet would allow a payment plan? You have close to half the estimated cost, perhaps they will work with you and allow you to pay the rest monthly?

Karissima has a good idea—try to work out a payment plan. If you are good customers with this vet, and they can tell that you are devoted cat lovers, hopefully they'll work something out with you. Too many pet owners are apathetic about their pets, because it's "just an animal," and I'm sure that this is distressing for vets to see. You are not apathetic, so let's hope they'll cut you a break and help you make this surgery happen.

If that is not an option, try looking into local charities. I know that in my area there are charities that help with pet food and veterinary care. If none of the local charities can help you, consider contacting a church nearby. Sometimes they have funds set aside for helping folk, even those who aren't members. I urge you to reach out. Almost everyone understands the important bond between pet and owner. Best luck, I hope find some assistance!

Family, friends, local shelters, rescues? Try a payment plan? If I were you I would look anywhere for money and worry about repaying it later.

If you really cannot get her the surgery, please please don't let her starve to death. Save her the suffering and have her euthanized.. I know you don't want to lose her, but without the surgery you will lose her anyway and you can't let her suffer like that..

I am really sorry you are going through this. It is terrible to see our beloved cats slip away and feeling helpless about it..

My thought are with you.

Sending prayers and vibes to your precious Lucy and you. Perhaps you can reach out to the local media & see if they would cover your story. An alternative is for you to ask your vet's office if they would be willing to accept donations paid directly to them for Lucy's treatment. Potential donors will feel much more comfortable if they can validate the vet office, which they can using the state's licensing board. I have known several vets around the nation who were happy to talk to me in person even though the amounts that I was able to contribute were small - I think animal practitioners are very compassionate, understanding and friendly people overall. Please keep us updated!

I really love all the suggestions on here and that people care so much, but in all honesty: It has been almost 2 days since this thread started, and all the while poor Lucy has been slowly starving. I don't want to be the negative voice in this thread, but how long will the poor thing have to suffer? 5 days is a short time to go look for miracles, after 2 days of not eating she is already at risk of many things (liver failure for one). Starving is probably one of the worst ways to go, certainly something I wouldn't wish on anyone (except maybe people who abuse cats!).

I'm sorry, but it makes me nauseous to think what Lucy's going through.
I don't say it lightly, but isn't a peaceful death preferable?

The OP mentioned that she was going through forums, so it's possible she found a solution in another forum or that Lucy passed already and the OP just hasn't checked back.
I hope for the best. All I can do over this medium is offer ideas. Unless we hear from the OP I think this thread is pretty much closed. :(
