All I can afford right now is Purina canned. Is there a food at least 5.5 oz can for kittens that is just as cheap as Purina so she can get her nutrition and calories? She is nursing 4 kittens.

How much are you paying per can?

I order my food from Chewy.com. You have to order by the case; but, the cost is cheaper than any store locally to me.

Also, has the mom been check out by the vet? She may have a parasite that is contributing to low weight.

Is she getting canned food only? How much are you feeding her?

I give her 3+ cans a day.Her kittens have flea larvae-live.I live in houston so she gets lots of canned food and I have a 20" round bird bath I keep clean every day..The mom is stray. The kittens see the vet tomorrow.I am looking for a good kitten food and something like NutriCal to give her.I was going to take the mom also but not with kittens that are sprouting flea larvae because I was planning to let her in my apartment and lead her to the bathroom while I have the kittens in a box.I have 3 indoor cats so they'll be locked up in my bedroom. As soon as she sees a carrier she is terrified.

Almost any canned wet food will be OK, as long as it isnt some peculiar low fat version (there are such).

I mean, you can pick even cheap sorts, and most of them will be OK.

If salomonella in eggs in no problem at your place, raw egg yolk is very useful.  You can mix it with almost anything.

A favorite may be goat milk + egg yolk...   Some plain youghurt full fat, some mild cheese as they are or with mixed in egg yolk...

If necessary, you can meld in som butter to add more fats.  Cold pressed olive oil to add vitamine E...

Good luck!    @maggie101

yes, its the easiest.  At least, if she ates it.   Not all are fond of yoghurt.  My residents arent.    :(

Yoghurt works also as a sort of natural, basic probiotic, so its useful if the cat likes it.

Cats arent as sensitive as humans for salomonella, but who wants to experiment with a high preg / a nursing mom??

I will proceed more in the evening.
