Hi,

I am wondering if I need to take my cat to an ER vet or if I can wait till next Tuesday or Wednesday to see a vet.

My ~2 year old cat hasn't eaten much today and just threw up everything she ate today.

She did have diarrhea and vomiting this Monday. She ate in the morning but then started throwing up everything and had really watery diarrhea all day. I stopped feeding her for a day and only gave her warm water.

Tuesday she got better and stopped vomiting. She also showed interest in eating wet food so I gave her little bit of wet food mixed in water for 3 times a day. She still had loose stool but it wasn't watery diarrhea.

Wednesday, I gave her wet food+water again. She had somewhat loose stool but was active and back to normal.

Thursday and Friday, I gave her normal food (dry+wet) and again, she seemed normal to me.

Today, she emptied her food bowl in the morning and ate 2 small pieces of chicken breast for treat. Just a couple hours ago, I gave her dinner but she refused to eat. She only licked wet food couple times and retreated to her house. And then just now she vomited; it contained hair and kibbles mixed with wet food. She also had loose stool right after vomiting.

She is now sleeping in her house..

I am planning to take her to a vet next week probably Wednesday but I am worried that she is vomiting and having diarrhea again. Is there anything I can do for her? Does her symptoms sound urgent to see an ER vet?

If it were me I would not wait.  I am not a vet but they get sick so fast and it turns serious so fast.

The problem is dehydration if she is vomiting and has diahrea. Of course sooner you get to the vet the better. If you have to delay I would get a bottle of unflavored pedialyte and syringe in half a cup twice a day.

Yes, I will see if I could take her to a vet next Monday..

So any pedialyte would work to prevent dehydration? Is there certain brand I should get? Or can I just go to Walmart and grab any unflavored pedialyte?

Thanks,

Any brand is ok. You need a plastic syringe like 10cc size you can get from a pet store. I don't think walmart has that but you can check.

I also think from your description of events the problem may be related to the kibble. It could have mold on it or something wrong with the bag. I would avoid that bag maybe get some fresh food. If it was me I would avoid dry food altogether for now because it will only exacerbate the dehydration since it has no moisture.

You can also mix some pedialyte with the canned food to make it like a soup.

I would take her to an emergency vet. Giving her anything oral if she has an obstruction would be bad. Just because she is having diarrhea doesn't mean she isn't obstructed. It is a classic sign of it. There is just to much that goes wrong when a cat is that sick.

I gave her one tea spoon of wet food mixed in water and pedialyte. She ate them all and now is asking for more..

She tends to eat fast, without chewing dry kibbles. When she throws up hairball i often see undigested? dry kibbles coming out together.

I think I am going to stop feeding her dry food for awhile. But will take her to a vet tomorrow to see if she has any other problem. Hope it's not intestinal/stomach obstruction.

Are there any regular vets open on Sundays in your area?  Better to be safe and get her in right away.

Obstruction is easy to detect. What you feed them needs to come out the other end. Remember cats need to eat daily or they die. Please keep feeding her and don't put off the vet any longer.

That's good she has her appetite. It's a good sign. I would give multiple smaller feedings instead of 1 or 2 huge ones. Say every hour or 2. This will be easier on her system and hopefully it will stay down.
