My 7yr. Old orange tabby indoor cat Bernie underwent total colon removal due to a condition called megacolon, which left untreated is fatal. He had surgery this past Monday, he is still at the vet. I'm so worried, he still isn't eating or pooping, and his temperature keeps going up and down. The vet took an xray and said that he saw no sighns of leakage. He did a blood test and said that his white count was ok...his red blood count was a little low. He said that if his temperature does not go down by this coming Monday, he may have to do another surgery! I am at the end of my nerves, and haven't slept in a week worring about my Bernie. Has anyone out there have this experience? What should I do? Could it just be the meds raising his temp?

I haven't experienced anything like that...but know I am thinking of you and will pray for lil Bernie.. bless his heart. Seems like it would be kinda natural for him not to feel like eating after going through something that major... hang in there!

He is a cutie.  I have no personal experience with this surgery.  We have had a few people here whose kitties have had it done but I don't know if any are still active here or not.  It seems the recovery is always a rocky one.  The last one we had here her kitty continued vomiting for quite awhile afterwards.  I don't remember if her kitty was being syringe fed or if he was eating on his own.  I hope your kitty improves and recovers without further surgery.

Thank you Denice. I'm trying to stay positive. Hopefully the vet will have some good news about Bernie on Monday.
