ok so I'm *hoping* I can turn my little idea I had into a business, but to get it off the ground I need a little help.

I'm working on making homemade sugar and salt scrubs :)

I've made one that is sugar, refined coconut oil and peppermint extract :) It smells amazing, tastes pretty good too lol :)

But I just made a salt, refined coconut oil, honey, almond honey essential oil blend, and a little coloring it smells good :)

I also made a little treat for me and my hubby that is unrefined coconut oil and jasmine essential oil.

I need help with scents that you personally would want / the ones you already buy.

Also would it be worth it to try and buy 100% organic raw materials and then market it as 100% organic?

That would cost me more money to buy and in turn raise the price of the end product but would you be willing to pay more for a 100% organic product?

I'll def be trying everything out with friends and family, having them let me know what is good and what was a flop. And depending on if I am actually able to get off the ground or not I may just end up making them for friends and family as presents.

I'm on  a small business forum to get help the logistics and such, but the scents and ideas for scrubs would be much appreciated.  I'm looking for seeds that I can turn into a tree :)

I'm already bouncing around the ideas of different combinations of refined/unrefined coconut oil, almond oil, honey, sugar, brown sugar, salt, honey and of course what ever essential oils. and coloring some, with the coloring that is used to color homemade soap. :)

Much appreciated :) :) :)

Okay, I have to ask. What is a scrub? I thought at first it might be something like a soap or cleanser, but then you talk about it tasting good.

A skin scrub is often a moisturizing and relaxing way to help cleanse your skin while using something gentle, like sugar, as an exfoliant to clear away dead skin cells. You just rub it onto your clean skin and rinse it off. A good scrub will leave your skin feeling supple and smooth and they're pretty easy to make! If you use natural ingredients, especially DIY, they're edible too... but it's not their primary use.

You can easily make your own with brown/white sugar, honey, and a bit of water, and you can add your choice of scent too. It's great if you have dry lips because you can rub a scrub on your lips and if any gets in your mouth, it's not an unpleasant experience.

I'm personally completely indifferent when it comes to organic vs non-organic vs X% organic. I think for scrubs, since they're treated like a spa time, lavender and vanilla would be two really good scents and they're also pretty common and well accepted. You can also play alchemy and mix scents, like a sweet vanilla orange or something. I like soft but sweet fruity scents. If you know Bodyshop scents, satsuma is delicious. Stuff like that.

Maybe for those who have an aversion to coconut oil, having a scrub based on jojoba would be nice too. Jojoba is similar to skin's natural sebum and it's very thin, so those who can experience breakouts even from something as gentle as coconut oil could have a backup. Avocado oil is a bit pricy, but it's also very good for skin if you can find and test a small batch of that! Maybe a coffee scrub? I once bought a friend a coffee scrub, and at the time we both worked at coffee shops, and she said to me "so I come home from work smelling of coffee, get in the shower, and rub coffee all over myself". I guess I didn't think that through because I got one for myself in the same order.

Here are a few of my thoughts, for what they are worth:

People who buy ORGANIC expect to pay more.

FAIR TRADE products are always nice - coconut farmers are some of the most impoverished in the world :( and buying/selling fair trade products helps rectify that. Plus, it opens your client base to include a "savvy" constituency.

ALMOND OIL is very popular- and is beginning to receive recognition as a wrinkle fighter. It's scent is popular and usually well-tolerated as is vanilla. KMart used to sell it in the "Mexican" section at a very reasonable price.

Be sure to market the "safe around babies and pets" angle - it is great that you will be producing a safe product in this culture of strong chemicals!

I wish you great success in this new venture!

My first one I instead of using an essential oil, I used peppermint extract and it was a mixture of sugar, refined coconut oil and peppermint extract and while using it in the shower and I wondered lol. It's not meant to be eaten. I haven't tasted any since then though.

But the ones with essential oils I have no intention of trying. And I don't intend to make anymore with peppermint extract. It was just my first attempt.

Though if I do ones for kids, I may make those with salt, coconut oil, and an extract, so that if they *do* eat it (kids eat everything these days) it'll be safe for them, but they won't try it again cause it'll be very very salty.

Lavender is amazing, or so I'm told. I'm actually allergic to it, but I would find a way to make ones with lavender because it supposed to be AMAZING for stress relief and sleep.

I did see almond oil at the store next where I got my unrefined coconut oil. And i thought about trying it, but as I figure out what works well and when I run out of coconut oil, I may try that for a bit.

I had read about coffee scrubs and brown sugar scrubs and I planned on trying those next.

There's just sooo many options and so many combinations it's gonna take a while to make good products.

Thankfully I'm in no short supply of friends and family to tell me what is good and what is bad.

Thank you guys :D :D
