My cat had a canine tooth pulled it had a hole in it and root was starting to recede. Vet gave clavamox twice a day for a week. Sometimes I have trouble giving medicine, if she doesn't get full amount do I have to worry about infection?

Brought my cat home, she's eaten tiny bits of food but it's clear she's in pain she is rubbing her mouth with her paw and she's on liquid painkiller. Vet didn't stitch hole shut its open, will the hole close up? It's her upper canine tooth that was extracted.

I'm sorry you are not getting any responses. I have not had a cat's tooth pulled but one of my dogs has had several pulled and we never gave her antibiotics, just a pain killer. The vet never stitched the hole's up either. Think of it like when you lost your baby teeth.

If she is eating and drinking, even in pain I wouldn't really worry but if she stopped eating/drinking then I would take her to the vet. You can always call the vet as well and ask if this is "normal."

I've bern giving her canned food and soft chicken and she ate them up, but it's been a day since food due to anesthesia so she must of been very hungry, pain or no pain. I was just concerned because I read up on new stuff, and online says cat canine is most painful as root goes deep and risk for "dry socket" and seeing as cats eat even in pain and I can't look in her mouth I can't see if a problem is happening.

My Sebastian had one upper canine tooth removed at his last dental (along with five other molars / pre-molars). They had just changed their policy not to administer post-dental antibiotics, so he didn't get any at the time of discharge. They attempted to suture the hole shut where the canine was, but it came undone and he started not eating. The other sutures were fine. I took him back in and they decided then to administer an antibiotic shot (I didn't know any better at the time) and also put on a Fentanyl pain patch, which lasts for three days. They didn't want me forcing anything into his mouth. The pain patch really helped make him comfortable.

They did not suture the hole shut again and decided to let it heal on its own. To keep it from getting infected, I was advised to gently lift his lip (not stick my fingers in his mouth or try to open his mouth) and clean it with a soft stream of luke warm water from a syringe to get the food out of the hole after each meal. There would be a lot of food stuck in there. Definitely don't do this without your vet's approval. The tissue did start to fill in and it healed up nicely after a couple months. He now just has a little "crater" in that spot.

You may want to check out this thread that I started: http://www.thecatsite.com/t/264206/extracted-upper-canine-tooth-constant-sore-on-lip. Sometimes with an upper canine removal, the lower canine can start jabbing the upper lip. The vet tried to explain it to me at the time of dental consult, but I didn't really understand until I experienced it first hand.

I wonder if this would be something that colloidal silver would be good to add some drops to her water or food for added antibiotic support?
Poor thing... sorry you are dealing with this. Hope it gets better quickly.

Yes it was her upper canine, she has no upper canines anymore and only one on the bottom, forgot which side. Vet said nothing about cleaning with water I probably couldn't even get her to let me, I put her painkiller (buprenex) in tuna so she could get it she doesn't want to be touched but she ate everything and ate the clavamox antibiotic. I opted no shot as she's had it before and it's so much dosage I think it's too much, plus orally some medication should go over the hole which I think could help.
