Anal Glands vs Constipation

Hello! I was hoping for some advise. I've already made a vet appointment and have consulted my vet, but am a little baffled about this and can't tell what might be the problem.

Background:  My 2 year old female cat is on a wet-food only diet.  She poops every other day roughly.  The last two weeks or so I've noticed two times where before she goes to the litterbox she will meow incessantly and circle around me like she was trying to tell me something.  Ten minutes later she will use the litterbox to poop and then come back and lie down on her bed looking tired.  This has only happened twice.  She is not scooting her butt on the floor, though.  She pees fine - no problem and I have seen her use the litterbox to poop normally as well during the last few weeks.  I have not changed her diet or any other circumstances.

Over the last few months I have also noticed her licking her butt under her tail.  She has gone into the vet last month for her annual check-up and things looked normal.  Her poop looks solid and normal.  I can't tell if maybe her anal glands need to be expressed as I've read about (which I was guessing maybe why she is meowing) or maybe she is constipated which is causing her discomfort.  Obviously something is bothering her, but I can't tell what.  The vet told me to try Miralax when I spoke with her, but maybe I am wrong in thinking it is constipation. I have made a vet appointment but was hoping for some clarification maybe as to the difference between these two things.

Sorry for the long post, but how can you tell which it could be?

Thank you for your help.

Is she peeing ok?  Is she still pooping every other day?  It sounds like constipation.  Anal glands could be involved as well, the vet will be able to help.  Usually anal glands get full when a cat has loose stool, as its the pressure of firm stool against the gland that expresses the glands.  Soft stools don't exert enough pressure.

Thanks for your help. She is peeing normally nothing changed.  Yes, she is still pooping every other day.  It does sound like constipation to me, too.  Thanks, again.
