It has been a while since I last came to this site but I now need a bit of advice. My mom's cat has lost a huge amount of weight. She had some issues this last year or so and at first we thought it was just urinary track infections . The vet put her on meds and she seemed to feel much better and started eating again but It hit her again and the vet said he really didn't think it was urinary track infection and suspected possible anti-frees or something she was very sick. She is better now and eats quite a bit but she is still very ,very thin. I would like some suggestions as to what to feed her to bulk back up. I am looking for something inexpensive to try.

I'm sorry your cat is sick again.
Do you mean anti-freeze: that's a poison!
Has she had blood work done recently (thyroid?), and how old is she?
I'd choose a no grain dry or wet food. Fancy Feast Classic is a pretty good brand; also check out Authority (PetSmart) brand.

I agree with Ritz. If you are trying to get some padding on her, get a grain free, high-fat food. To save a little on money, you might purchase dry kibble and mix it with a portion of canned food to be more enticing. If you decide to do that, buy the best grain-free kibble you can and use a cheaper canned food for the "gravy". Dry kibble is not all created equal. Don't look for the most expensive, either, read some reviews and compare ingredients.

Remember, too, that any loss or gain of weight should be gradual in order to be healthy. Even though her weight loss may not have been healthy, because she was sick, gaining back the weight should be done slowly. Try to measure or estimate the calories she is eating currently, and add maybe 50 calories extra to her daily total. It's agonizingly slow, but better over all for her health.

Best luck, I hope she enjoys good health in the future! Antifreeze poisoning is terrifying.
