"...the truth is that cats in general do love their owners but they have their own lives."

dang. so I have to make an appointment to give my cat some love cuddles and pets?

Interesting article the BF forwarded to me. I hope you all at TCS enjoy it too:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/lifestyl...stressed-because-we-treat-them-like-dogs.html

I'm sure a lot of us already knew a lot of what was in the article.

its funny about what they say about cats being solitary creatures. I mean to some extent I'm sure all cat owners know this, but I've seen so many cat owners say "omg but my kitty is so lonely!".

3 cats later i'm realizing, that perhaps all 3 of my cats would benefit from being the solo cat in a household. especially my girl Jet. For sure Charlie. He's very good at zoning everything and everyone out...and I'm sure in his head he's the solo cat in the house. Gunther is still young, so he's still a bit clingy. He went from being stuck to Charlies side to now being stuck to Jet's side. He's only recently started to come to me for affection and love and started to sleep at the foot of the bed.

I'll be moving at the end of this month. to a one bedroom apartment with the BF, so no more room mates. I'm guessing each cat will stake out their own room and will mostly be solo and keep to only themselves once we move out. Right now with my current living situation, me, the bf, and my 3 cats are pretty much in one room all the time as we live with room mates. there is no communal area in this house other than the kitchen. it will be interesting to see the dynamics change between the 3. I'm guessing Jet will always be in the bedroom, or some place that is heavy on my scent...probably in my closet. Charlie would probably be the king of the living room. sprawled out on the couch for everyone to see him reigning over his "land". and Gunther will mostly likely go between the two until he get's older and finds his own spot in the new apartment.

anyways i just kind started a whole 'nother rant on my own. enjoy the article! i'm looking forward to the mini series coming out. It should be very interesting to watch and learn.

Very interesting article and to know there's a new documentary coming out soon.  Thank you.

A friend of mine who works in a book store recently gave me a copy of Bradshaw's recent book and I'm looking forward to getting in to it for a bit more of this cat behaviour information.  It makes loads of sense.

Good luck with your home move @Lamiatron  , hope your kitties all take well to their new space (and sharing you with the BF).

I'm very interested in the documentary too.

BF has been in the pic since day one with all 3 cats, so they're used to him..but I don't think they'll ever be used to sharing me with him. HAHA

Funny sorry. Me and the BF had a fight one night. In our room now (its big enough) we have a full size bed, and a big couch. So after the fight, I just went to the couch to sleep there. woke up in the morning with all 3 cats with me. Charlie and Gunther by my head and Jet by my feet. I learned that day that them sleeping on the bed isn't just a comfort thing for them, and that they wanna sleep with momma hahahah. We also learned that day that the cats don't really love their dad as much as they love mom.

Your poor BF!
   I guess he's lucky they decided not to defend you and go all spitty and hissy with him.

I always thought that if Mouse has someone else to snuggle up with other than me to stay warm at night he would do, and wouldn't mind if I wasn't around as long as someone was here to give him attention.  It stunned me when he made it clear it was me he roomed with when I took in a couple of tenants that he instantly adored.  They say that when I'm not in he is quite different and always gets excited when he senses I'm coming back home.  He plays and snuggles and gets all his treats and stuff with them too but he still knows his human mom.  Blew me away.  I plan to go away for a couple of days next month though and am not sure how he will react to that.  I've never left him with anyone else over night before and I'll be away for 3 nights if the holiday plan works.

They do pick their favorites.  Rico, Hannah and Jake are definitely partial to Daddy, while Ozzy, Zoe and Travis love their mama best!

How funny. The "girls" mainly sleep with dh (he works long hours, stays up late and I am a light sleeper) and Wally, the baby and Louie sleep with me.

The cat I swore hated me has been jumping on my shoulder when I am on the computer or cuddling when I take a nap. She is an odd girl.

Interesting that the article suggest cats are solitary creatures and don't like company. I have 20 cats and they've formed a really close bond with each other. I think if they could open cans and packets by themselves I'd be totally ignored. They really seem to seek each other out for playtime and cuddles. No matter how small the chair, if one cat gets in it the rest all try to get up there too.

See what I mean?

I've bought a much bigger sofa since this picture was taken.

@Norachan  , fabulous photo!
  That is one sofa full of kitties. I hope Mr Bradshaw knows of TCS and takes a peek at this some time.

Wait...20 cats??? really? how do you manage to take care of them?

About the article, very interesting and accurate. But the behavior of a cat changes significantly if you raise the cat from kitten to adulthood. Like for example I have two toms I rescued when they were 2 weeks old, they haven`t have any contact with any other cat so me and my husband are their role models. They like water, they come in the bathroom when I'm taking a shower! they always want to be in the same place where we are, they welcome new people in the house and don´t get shy by them, also they aren't bothered by changes. We recently move to a new house and everything went smooth with them.

Of course because they're kittens we have to wait until adulthood if they keep this social behavior.

@helsic

definitely agree with you on that! each cat is different and very distinct. Having 3 cats of my own, i can't stress enough about how they are so different from each other. its amazing :)
