Our site Secret Santa exchange and a few facebook posts lately have had me thinking about things like The Tooth Fairy, Santa and the Easter Bunny!

Did you believe in The Tooth Fairy, Santa or the Easter Bunny as a child (or adult!)?  Another mythical character?

We actually do not do Santa or the Easter bunny with our kids; since those are faith based holidays for our family.  But somewhere along the lines; my DD got the idea of the Tooth Fairy and cannot wait to lose her first tooth.  She tries to tell me "Mom!  My teeth are falling out!"  She's too young for that so I always tell her "they better not be!"  It seems a little silly to do one and not the others; but it look like that is what we are doing!  I guess I better stash some ones or quarters around the house.

My DH did not grow up with any of those as part of their family traditions.  I did and I think I was 8 or 9 when my Mom decided to tell me Santa wasn't real.  She expected me to be distraught.  I wasn't.

I used to believe in the tooth fairy, but when I was younger, my parents forgot to give me money, so I stopped believing.

I believed in Santa and the Easter Bunny, and still sort of do in a way ;)

I believed in all three till around kindergarten age, when my older brother for some reason decided it would be wise to enlighten me. :lol3:

I never believed in the Tooth Fairy or Easter Bunny, but I think until I was 7 or 8, I believed in Santa Claus. I think it was more of a coincidence that one year when I was 6, I got a Barbie from "SC" but even then, I kept asking my brother, whose initials are SC, why he wouldn't admit to buying it for me.
In hindsight, it may have been something my dad received from his work (all children and grandchildren of staff get presents from the company for Christmas as long as they're under 17) where the kids actually go to a party, get a free breakfast, sit on Santa's lap, and get gifts.

Not too much. I don't recall how old I was when I realized there was no Santa. I do remember my younger sister and I scouring the house, looking for our Christmas presents. Once my parents realized we were doing that, Mom started locking everything in the camper. Which wouldn't have been too bad, but then she took the darn camper key to work with her!

We only got quarters for teeth when we were kids. When our son was a child, he received $1.00. Now with our grandchildren, Grandpa gives $5.00 for every tooth. We didn't really believe in the tooth fairy either, or the Easter bunny. Santa and the Easter bunny don't exist for our grandchildren and I don't think they really believe in the tooth fairy either anymore.

I don't now if I actually believed in the Tooth Fairy, but I remember I realised that my brother and sister got money when their teeth fell out. I didn't want to miss out so I used to pull at and wobble my teeth until they came loose and I could pull them out. I lost all my milk teeth this way.

I probably got plenty of money, but I had to have braces for about 4 years because all my adult teeth came in before my mouth was big enough for them.

That Tooth Fairy! I should have sued!

Tooth fairy for sure.  Back then, you only got a quarter for teeth.  I can't even believe the amounts of money parents now shell out for this.

All three and the lephrechaun on St. Patricks day. Mainly because the teachers would mess up the classrooms with mini foot prints- as if a leprechaun caused the trouble!

I believed in the chopper fairy, santa, god, and the easter bunny because I was brainwashed-told they existed repeatedly.

Then at about 7 I realized the ridiculousness of it all. Faith by definition is believing in something without evidence.

Now we did receive some "evidence" of Santa, the Bunny and the Fairy as we got gifts. Yet the moment we discover our parents left those gifts there goes the "evidence".

As a thinking adult I require evidence rather than rumor and magical wishful thinking to believe in anything.

Still I see no psychological harm done in pretend as long as everyone knows it is PRETEND.

I believe in Santa.

Santa Claus and all the rest do actually "exist." They are not flesh-and-blood mortal humans like us, but the stories have never claimed them to be. The fact that parents give their kids gifts under these entities' names year after year proves their existence. Even though you can't see them or sit on their laps, they are firmly right here, in our culture.

We were not religious much at all but did Santa and Easter Bunny.  Tooth Fairy too.  I had it ruined for me as my older cousin told me the truth VERY early on.  We will raise baby same way-holidays but not real religious backing to them.  At some point when a bit older if child wants to go to church or some religious I will gladly take them and let them explore the religions at THEIR own pace.

Tooth Fairy had to come back multiple times as "she can not come if your up or HOLDING your tooth" It was funny cause Mom knew I knew yet still tried to pull it off.  I would stay up all night she would walk in and I would be like Hi!

All of them! My mom one year for Easter spelled my name out in jelly beans, and even made giant bunny foot prints in our carpet to make it more believable! She always went all out, even after I stopped believing in such things.

No, I have honest parents. My father made the best easter egg hunts, though. They could've been anywhere in the house. One time he even put them in the budgie cage! Not being fed all that stuff about santa, jesus and tooth faeries really spared me a lot of disappointment as I grew up, and I really have a strong, trusting relationship with both my parents.

Oh; I'll be considered a cheap parent I'm sure!  I don't see me giving more than $1 a tooth.

I'd call that smart and practical

DD seems to find pennies everywhere we go and we've been saving them but still don't have enough for her to go buy something.  She's not impressed.
At least the tooth fairy will give her enough for SSOMETHING
