Hi everyone! My name is katie, and i have 2 cats that is about 15 months old. We adopted them when they were kittens, and there brother and sister (and not fixed!!). The male was always trying to mate with Louise (my cat lol), and Louise was always in heat. We kept the separated when they were doing this. Not just a few days ago, we realized that Louise was pregnant, but how is she when they've only spent a second breeding? And are inbred kittens healthy?

Hi Katie,

How do you know Louise is pregnant? Did a vet tell you she was? Inbred kittens can turn out normal and they can also have a long long list of problems the worst of which would be neurological and heart defects, sometimes blindness and deafness, they can have problems with their eyelids which I think is pretty common.

Well the vet said about 3 weeks, and were not that prepared for the birth quite yet. How long does she need to be before we need to worry?

Cats are pregnant for about 9 weeks. So she's only about 1/3 through.

If you're comfortable with the idea, she can be spayed now to abort the kittens. It might be better than allowing her to have inbred kittens.

Whether you decide to let her have the kittens or not, be sure the male is neutered now. Cats can get pregnant again right away after giving birth so you want him done before that.

I agree with Willowy.

If spaying now is an option for you,  its the easiest way out.    The spaying must anyways come, no?

Next question is why you didnt spayed them before?  Having two intact cats in home, "igniting" on each other...  wow.

If you want to have small kittens to take care of there are other ways too.  For example cooperating with a shelter or rescue group.

But of course, if  its your  decisive will to carry on and have this litter of kittens, we are here and will try to help you through.

Good luck!

Ok so i have a cat named Louise, and she's pregnant. But I'm very concerned with her nutrition, and physical activities. Even though she's pregnant, she used to run around a play (and eat..A LOT). But now, she doesn't move a lot, and won't eat! Do you guys have any tips or suggestions?

Katie

Katie I had the same issue. I rescued two strays that we're living underneath someone's house. The brother and sister mated before I got them fixed. They were still so young and I couldn't believe the female could breed yet. When we realized she was preggers we got the male fixed and let the female have the litter of kittens. I had the same worries and concerns about whether the babies would be ok. I read all I could about it and was prepared for the worst. My queen had 3 babies. When they were about 2 weeks old we took in another stray baby from the same house. The mama cat took it in with her 3 babies and raised it. All of them are healthy and are now 6 months old. The downside is that I now have 4 more babies to neuter in addition to spaying the mama. That gets expensive!

Did you adopt them from a shelter or just a person giving them away?  A shelter should have fixed them before letting them go.  It's highly unethical of them not to.  As far as mating, it only takes a second.  And she will continue to come into heat again pretty much a couple of weeks after birth so you need to get her fixed asap.  The kittens will probably be fine.  It's a common practice with some pure breeds to breed father and daughter.  Siblings gets a little trickier.  They may be "different" or "special" acting, but they will most likely be fine.  However, it's not a good idea to keep either of them in tact and able to breed because they will over and over again.  A cat can have 4 or 5 litters a year and an average of 4 kittens (maybe more per litter)... That's a LOT of responsibility to find good homes for.  I wouldn't advertise them as inbred.  People hear that and they cringe.  I am not saying lie but maybe not bring it up in adopting time when it comes time.

Since she's pregnant, I'm asking the Moderators to move your thread over to the Pregnant Cat and Kittens Forum.  That's where the experts in their area hang out, and hopefully someone "in the know" will see your question and have an answer for you
.  I never had a pregnant cat, so have absolutely no idea how that act.  Just know they should be eating more than usual, but don't know even what that starts
