1. What antibiotic is best useful for dental cleaning/tooth extractions?

2. Is an antibiotic really necessary after a dental cleaning with tooth extractions?

Please do not mention Convenia.

Both of my kitties have had teeth removed, one for gingivitis the other for FORL.  One kitty got an antibiotic called Antirobe my other kitty got Baytril.  I think Antirobe is the one that is normally given.  My IBD kitty who probably has liver damage from having Fatty Liver got the Baytril.  I didn't ask why but I think that was probably why he got something different.

Some people don't think an antibiotic is necessary but I think it's a good idea.  When a human gets a tooth extracted they rinse out their mouth several times a day with salt water while it heals, that isn't an option with a kitty.

Was there any side effects with the Antirobe? How many days was it given for?

Alice didn't have any issues with it.  I don't remember how long she was on it but it wasn't very long.  I know it wasn't anything close to 10 days more like maybe 4 or 5 days.
