Hi,

I'm new to this forum so forgive me if this is in the wrong place. Does anyone know what colour kittens to expect from a blue mink mum (carries point and choc) and red sire? Both cats hcm scanned negative, both shown etc, breeding is planned carefully, never thought about colours before as only focused on health, type and temp. Got a rough idea but wondered if anyone really knows their genetics?! Thanks in advance.

Wow mink ! Which breed of cat are you breeding ? ;)

Well, mink is a colorpoint just the there is minimum color difference between the two shades on the body with a mink.

If the father carriers the point gene too - you will get some pointed kittens if he doesn't you will not get any.

Male kittens take there color gene from there mother only so possible male kitten colors -
Seal point or mink - if father carries point gene
Blue point or mink - if father carries point gene
Solid black
Solid blue - if father carries dilute gene

Female kittens take a color gene from both parents, because the father is red this means all the females will be a tortie of some kind. Possible female kittens
Seal tortie point or mink - if father carries point gene
Blue tortie point or mink - if father carries point gene
Black and red tortie
Blue and red tortie - if father carries the dilute gene
