Hello Friends,

I'm new here so bear with me.

I'm having a lot of trouble dealing with my cats allergies, he is having a terrible time licking, chewing, pulling his fur out.

I know that allergies are common I just keep thinking that I'm not doing enough,

But in reality we've done everything the Dr. has said to do.

Our vet started him on Atopica two weeks ago, after we tried two different antihistamines,

and cortisone shot. His food was changed, as was his litter.

We are bathing him with medicated shampoo (Ketoseb), and he has been getting omega 3 supplements.

This has taken place over the last 3-4 months. He has no other ailments.

As for the Atopica, I know it takes time to work, but my concern is that he will break the skin,

or get an infection before it takes full effect.

Like I said, it has been two weeks and he hasn't gotten any relief yet.

It's as if he's not taking anything at all.

I'm going to ask the Dr. on Monday if I could give him an antihistamine along with the Atopica.

I don't even think it would help frankly but he needs help right now.

Does anybody know if they would give him a shot while he's taking Atopica?

I'm really having a tough time with this and he seems miserable.

If you've used Atopica, how long did it take for your cat to respond to it?

Is prednisone the next step if Atopica doesn't work?

Any help or words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

aww poor baby, I'm so sorry. Both our cats had some type of allergies...we tried the food elimination route...but nothinng helped. Our one kitty that just passed, had the constant licking...and the patterned baldness on her belly and hind legs as she licked so much. She found relieff with Zyrtec....but it didn't help our other kitty. The other one has actual hot spots that she gets after however she's not licking like she's itching all the time at least.... just the spots seem to "appear". Not sure if hers is just a stress thing or actual allergy... whereas our one that passed seemed to have more of an allergy to maybe the air even though they're inside cats.
