My cat has a few issues that I posted awhile back. Right now, my cat is on an Iron/B-12 tinic, bile thinner and prednisone. In a week and a half I take her back to get her blood checked again to see if her anemia has improved. My goal right now is to try to get my cat to gain weight as she lost a lot of weight very quickly (16 lbs to 9 lbs) and help build up her strength and nutrition.

The vet told me to pretty much feed her anything she will eat. She was a dry food lover all her life until a few weeks ago. I went out and bought a sensitive formula dry food (Purina Pro Plan) because she was throwing up a lot and I thought a sensitive formula would be better for her. She doesn't eat a lot of the dry food, preferring wet food most of the time but I was wondering if there is a better sensitive formula brand for her. I have searched through the forums and looking at Petsmarts website and I am still confused. I figured out of all the sensitive formulas my choices are -  Purina Pro Plan, Nutro Natural Choice Grain Free or Blue Basics Sensitive Solution. The Nutro is cheaper but by only a few dollars. My cat was originally on Purina Indoor Cat Formula before she got sick. I was just curious if anyone thought one was better over the other or if I should consider another option? I only shop at Petsmart so it has to be a a brand available from there.

My cat is also eating wet food as well. Right now she is mostly eating the Prescription Hills a/d to hopefully gain some weight. We have been searching for another wet food that she would like and it has been an hassle. She didn't like fancy feast so I went for the pate style type of food. We bought 2 cans in all price ranges (very expensive to very cheap) and she wasn't interested in any of them. On a whim I went and bought Sheba and she loved it. I even accidentally bought some Sheba cuts and she liked that for awhile as well. For now, she seems to prefer the a/d but I bought some Friskies pate and meaty bits to try today. I noticed the Sheba brand had a stronger meat/food smell than the other brands. The high end brands didn't have a smell and the petsmart brand had a chemical smell. My cat's smell is not that great since she has feline herpes but hasn't had an outbreak since she was a kitten.

I bought some cat milk today (CatSip brand) and she drank some of that this evening, which is great since she isn't a huge water drinker. I figured anything I can do to help supplement what she is currently eating and drinking can't hurt.

My next question is, should I try GNC High Calorie Booster Cat Gel? She is starting to have a lot of energy the last two days (playing and chasing the laser pointer) but she isn't gaining any weight. Any other suggestions on any other supplements that might help as well?

Any thoughts/suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Can I moderator change the title of this for me? It should be: Best Cat Food and Supplements - eyes crossing.

Thanks.

You have to get the vomiting under control or it won't matter what your cat eats - she won't gain weight. Have you used cerenia?

She hasn't vomited in 3 weeks, maybe longer so that is no longer a concern. She was throwing up every day, multiple times a day a 2 months ago before I took her to the vet.  Then she only vomited 2-3 times a week for a couple of weeks but since I changed her dry food she stopped vomiting all together. I started giving her wet food after bringing her home from the vet but she likes eating dry food too (she likes the crunch I think).

For the dry food, have you looked at Authority Sensitive Solutions? I've had good results with it, the ingredients are decent IMO and it isn't expensive. Its Petsmart's store brand.

She stopped vomiting because you took away dry food. I know she likes it but it does make the sensitive ones vomit, I know from personal experience. Also if you switch to grain free wet it also helps ease their stomach and is more calorie dense to help with weight.

She still eats dry food, just a different kind and it's not the only thing she eats. She also eats wet food too and even a little bit of cat milk. My vet told that cats on dry food throw up more than cats on wet food so I have been slowly getting her on wet food only. My cat loves the crunch of cat food, plastuc, cords etc. I would rather her chew on dry cat food than these other things, It's a work in progress.

I have not tried a Authority but I might buy a small bag and see how she likes it. It is cheaper than what I am giving her now but snce she doesn't eat a lot of the dry food a small bag has lasted me for awhile.
