Hello,

My new male kitten has grown a lot in the past month. He is about 6.6lbs at only 4.75months. When he got his rabies shot I asked the vet if I was feeding him too much and they said no and he will just be a big cat. I don't know if I photographed it well in the first picture, but his shoulder blades are huge. He has a lot of muscle there.

Anyone know how big his adult weight might end up being? I asked the vet and they just said big. I don't know if they mean 15lbs big, 20lbs big, or 25lbs big. I just want to make sure that I don't end up feeding him too much or too little. I don't know how much more he should have compared to my other kitten.

Hello Sunflowers!!!

First off I would like to say he is just BEAUTIFUL!!! I can't be certain but I do think he is going to be big. My almost one year old male is also long haired, with big shoulder blades & HUGE legs and paws. Mine weighs in at 10 pounds and he is only 9 months old. I have been told as well that he will be big!!! If your boy is anything like mine than he may top out to between 15-20 pounds. This is what I was told to expect. Good luck with your sweetie I'm sure he will be a wonderful companion!!!

Thank you very much for the reply :) I can't wait to see how big he grows up to be. My sister has a big kitty, but he is more overweight than actual big. I have always admired those large main coon cats and am excited to have a cat that might have their big bone structure.

You should post some pictures of your kitty. He sounds adorable.

He's so lovely! Those paws look pretty big to me! My sister's kitten was an itty bitty thing that suddenly turned into MOUNTAIN CAT over a few months. He's not overweight, he's just all-around over sized.

I have noticed that the size disparity in color points is typically greater than in others. My females that had male siblings are all roughly half the size of their brothers as adults. (I don't stalk my kitties' sibling owners or anything, just happen to be friends with some of them, haha.)

I would not worry about over-feeding at this stage. Kittens need all the nutrition you can provide them. Once he is fully grown, between 1 and 2 years, is the time to start monitoring his caloric intake. You did not mention what you are feeding or how old your other kitten is? Are you feeding meals or allowing free feeding/"grazing"? If you are feeding meals I would add a little bit of high quality kibble as a free-fed snack for the kittens. If you have other cats in the house you can rig up a sort-of creep feeder with a crate and string.

Enjoy your lovely baby!

What a gorgeous cat! I love colorpoints.

I thought my male kitten was going to be bigger than he ended up being, because at 3 months old he was already 4 lbs, and at 4 months nearly 6 lbs. However his growth leveled off after that, and now at 4 years he weighs a respectable 11.5 lbs - not small, but not particularly big either.

I don't think it's necessary to try to tailor a kitten's food intake for his projected adult size, just let him eat as much as he wants. Growing kittens need a lot of food regardless!
