Hello,

I am caring for 3 - 5 week old kittens. I am wondering how much food should I be feeding them. I am feeding them Royal Canin Babycat Instinctive wet food. They are all about 15 oz. now. The amount to be fed on the website says 1 1/4 to 1 3/4 can per day. It seems like a lot of food for these little ones. Their tummies always seem bloated after each feeding. Maybe because they eat too fast? They do not have any parasites. They only had one deworming, but I haven't see any evidence of worms in two weeks.

Thanks on advance!

I can't answer your question as I have no knowledge of raising kittens. I will try to get someone who can help you to answer your post.

Welcome to The Cat Site, and congratulations on your new kitten. Am I reading correctly: 3 to 5 WEEKS (versus months) old? So, are you bottle feeding? (Don't know much about kittens.)

30 calories per pound for kittens; less for adults. Some cans list the calories, some don't. If your cat likes one brand the best that doesn't have the number of calories, the information is usually available on the manufacturer's web site.

Or basically, as much as they care to eat.

Here is a good thread that I think answers your question, and here is another one.

I usually let my kittens eat as much as they want. I will also put dry kitten food into their cage for them to start munching on as well. You can't overfeed kittens, they need all they can get to grow properly. They may still have worms- kittens often need a few rounds of dewormer before they are parasite free. Also- different dewormers cover different things, so the one you used may not have gotten all the worms.

My cat is 7.4 pds and eats a ton of food though she has slowed down since she's 2 yrs.She now eats 1 can  a day.5.5 ounce just like my 9 pd.So their weight has nothing to do with it.They are the same size, different weight.
