So I was just googling what effects does gentian violet have on cats and some places mentioned that it is toxic.
My kitty was fine before she got groomed and I asked the vet to apply the solution on her after she got shaved as recommended by the vet itself since my kitty had ringworms. My kitty passed away the next day. The vet said that her liver had stopped functioning and her organs were shutting down

I just wanted to know has anyone had any experience with this medicine or have any idea if this is toxic?

Thanks in advance.

I am so sorry you lost your baby girl cat
.  What did your Vet say they thought the cause of her liver failure was?  I honestly don't think it was the Gentian Violet, unless they used the chemical substance by the same name versus the healing type spray used for skin conditions, since this was used at the groomer/Vets.  Whatever the case, I'm sure it's a terrible shock to you, and again, my sympathies.

Thank you so much for responding
Well it was not really a spray..it wad a solution which she applied used cotton balls. And it wasnt just a dab or two..she basically covered up most of her skin, which i somehow feel was alot.
She never really gave me a proper answer as to why my kitty's liver failed, just said maybe it was not in good condition from before and now is when her organs were giving up.
The vets in my country are not all that great, they dont give any specific explainations or proper diagnosis.
She did mention when i took my kitty to her in the beginning that her body temp was 30(not sure what measure that is) and it is extremely low and may have caused liver damage.

There are so many things running in my head and i dont know what makes sense anymore :(

I suppose a spray could also be applied with a q-tip or cotton ball.  Any that I've seen is as a spray, but I'm not really all that familiar with it, as it's usually used on birds (that I can find).  I DID find that it can be toxic if too much is used, but there really isn't much on it for use in cats.

So, if she had a very low temp when you first took her to the Vet, perhaps there was already something going on with her other than the ringworm.  It's hard to say.  I'm just so sorry you lost her.
