Does anyone else vaccinate their own cats?

I was all set to take 5 cats to the vaccine clinic tomorrow. Until I looked at the brochure and noticed they want $25 per 3 in 1 vaccine. What was I thinking? Poor Izzy gets absolutely terrified when going to the vet and shakes the entire time, plus it will be an hour wait outside in the sun. It has been 96 degrees lately by 10 am. Not to mention, the last time I was there someones cat got loose and ran off into the woods. The lady was in tears and went home, as she said she would never be able to catch him.

I checked online and Jeffers has vaccines for $5 each. Plus with overnight shipping, 3 packs of extra ice and a cooler, it came out to be $50 for everything.  No standing in the heat, and no traumatized cats.

Anyone else self-vaccinate? And where do you order your vaccines from?

I don't know when vaccine clinics got so expensive! I checked an old receipt and it used to be $5 a shot.  I called tractor supply and their vaccine clinic was $35 per vaccine!

Yes I do.

I vaccinate all of the cats who come to my rescue group, as well as my own, although I do NOT vaccinate them anymore basically.

Too many new studies show in the past, the yearly vaccinating wive's tale is over-vaccinating.

But yes. I but them through revival animal online.

Always get the modified live virus (MLV) They are non adjuvanted so the risk of sarcomas at the vaccine spot is 10 times lower.

Panleukopenia, rhinotracheitis and calicivirus is all they need, 3 in 1.

You will need needles too. Vaccinate on the front right side, as close to the elbow as you comfortably can.

With your left hand, find a good spot, plenty of skin and create a tent between your thumb and first finger.

The tent or triangle is when you gently pinch then, pull up and with your right finger, poke into the triangle as if your finger were the needle, this will give you the feel of where you want it to go.

If any of the vaccine gets on their fur, be SURE to wipe it clean with alcohol or hand sanitizer, so they don't lick it clean and get sick.

You can get the vaccine at Tractor Supply too (in the fridge with the cow/pig/etc. vaccines). It costs more per dose than Jeffers but you don't have to pay shipping.
