Good morning.

Today's question is, Do you or have you ever had a nickname? Who gave it to you?

I've had several. All the way through school I was called Flo. It started when my best friend and I were about 6 and we were making up rhymes for each other's names.

My name is Laura, so I was called Laura Flora, then Flower, and then this got shortened to Flo, which stuck for the next ten years or so.

About 5 years ago my Japanese teacher gave me the name Kitty. This is because the first part of my married name is Kita, which sounds a bit like Kitty, and because when I introduced myself to the class I said.

"My name is Laura. I love cats!"

Most of the other students know me as Kitty and they're always surprised to hear this isn't my real name.

Recently I've been given a new nickname. Now that I live in a little cottage in the middle of The Suicide Forest surrounded by all my cats my brother has started calling me The Blair Witch.

I was Snow White for the longest time, because I had the fairest skin, which was thought to be impossible in a tropical country. There was only one other girl who could outwhite me.
Without light makeup (as she had been for the first 15 years of her life), strangers thought she was either sick, or a zombie.

Mirajane - my grandpa

Izzy and Cat are some of my screen names.

Anything ending with -chan or sense my friend don't know Japanese honorifics, -sama. (Funny if you do know)

Whenever I tell people where I live they go "OMG, have you ever seen any ghosts?!"

Really, the only things that scare me around here are the wild boar.

One of my friend's used to call me "Wee."  it had nothing to do with bathroom humor.

In college I had a professor who gave nicknames to several people in the class; which only had 20something people in it I think.  A friend of mine was Zits.  I was Michelobe; like the beer.  I was 18 and 19 when I had classes he taught.  So no beer drinking for me.  He was a bit of a nutty professor.  Hair and all.

My boss at my job I had during college also shortened my name.  She said my full name was too long to say all the time.
I didn't care that much; the explanation was a bit off putting though.  The friend who called me Wee also called me that and for a few years; pretty much everyone did.  Then it felt odd; so i went back to using my full name.  My eldest nephew still calls me that though.  And sometimes other people in DH's family.  It's not a big deal to me I guess.

I didn't know people could live there.  I thought it was like a National Park here in the U.S.  You should start your own thread about this, I have read a lot about it including pictures and it would be interesting to know how much of it is true.

I would love to see some pictures of around your house! I've heard of your area. And.....have you seen any ghosts???
Any interesting stories to tell us?

Oh, sorry, I digress.

My nickname for a long while was Frenchy. I have no idea why, but the name stuck for years. Started in HS. Then when I went to work in a factory, one of my co-workers was a former HS classmate. Well, he simply had to spread the name around, so others started calling me that.

You would not believe the amount of people who call me Pammie. My name is Pamela and I go by Pam. But so many people call me Pammie, esp people older than me. It's OK and I don't mind really. Better than Frenchy!

A great-uncle liked to call me Patticake or Patsy when I was a kid, and the former was sometimes used by other relatives, though I've always gone by Tricia or Tric rather than Patricia. Some high school friends called me Toto (after the little dog in the Wizard of Oz - how that started is a long story!), and that later morphed into Schillaci, after an Italian football/soccer player in the 80s and 90s, because his nickname was also Totò.

I'm a bit envious of where you live! I wouldn't want to be anywhere near any dead bodies, but from what I've seen, that forest is beautiful.

I have a couple old friends that call me Shell, my mom calls me Shell-shell (but it sounds like sieou-sieou, which sounds cuter anyway
), my uncle, despite my age, continues to call me Meek-meek-ge-sieou-sieou. That started when I was a little kid and they made my English name sound cute, so it started with Meek-sieou, and adding repetition added to the "cutesiness". The "ge" in the middle is like adding "the".

I've had a couple people, like a classmate from high school and a former boss call me Mish/Mich. My boyfriend used to refer to me as Mich when talking to other people until I finally told him to stop because I hated it.

One of my jobs was in a coffee shop and almost everyone else there was a heavier set, older person so as one of the younger people who actually stuck around, Skinny Minnie picked up steam fast for the 4 years I was there.

I had a group of women friends when I lived in Austin and we called ourselves "The Five Misses." One friend was named Miss Demeanor since she was very sweet and polite, but had had a minor brush with the law. One was MIss Chievous, she was always stirring the pot, there was also Miss Guide and Miss Nomer, and their names fit given the history we had together. I had a very active, social, and sometimes strange life, and I was known as MIss Adventure. We all came up with the names together and loved our nicknames, it was a lot of fun.

I have a friend who started calling me K.Ro a few years ago. She came up w/ it because I liked to dance, (& kinda had a booty) like J.Lo. LOL! My first name being Kelly, & my last starting with Ro, that's where she got it.

I was known as The Professor around here for a long time. I dropped that several years ago, when I found out the people that started that were being partly insulting. To this day, I still run across people I know who never knew my given name.

Add me to the list of people who want to hear about living in the Suicide Forest!! It's so beautiful and I read that the atmosphere is very still and sorrowful...

My parents gave me the nickname of pucinka ("little butt") when I was a year old. It stuck until with me until about age 10! Now I'm usually called by either my name or Miška.

It is a National Park, but some of the villages were here before it was given National Park status, so they remain. In the 80's, when the economy was booming, most young people left the villages and went to live in the cities where they could make a fortune. The villages were bought up by property developers and turned into weekend cottages and holiday homes. When the economy crashed a lot of people went bankrupt and these houses were seized by the banks. Some of the places around here look like they've been empty for 20 years, lots of them are derelict. It adds to the atmosphere of the place. As we are so high up in the mountains when the low cloud comes down the whole area is shrouded in mist.

It is kind of spooky, but I love it. There is something quite beautiful about the way nature swallows up the buildings as soon as the people leave. I've seen houses with trees growing out of the roof, crumbling mansions covered in ivy. But as I sit here now I can hear birds singing and there is a family of deer grazing in the woods right outside of my window. It's not depressing at all. In fact it's really life affirming.

OK, you've talked me into it. I'll post some pictures of the forest. The reason so many people come here to end things is that they want to be surrounded by beauty and tranquility and watch the sun rise over Mount Fuji. If that is the last thing you see I guess you stand a chance of dying happy.

It sounds so beautiful, but I think if it were me, come night time the darkness would scare me to death.
