Hi all- quick intro- I have a male silver bengal of 3 months named Sasuke and a 5 month old girl named Luna. Sasuke always seemed to have some brown discharge in his eyes everyday since we got him. Then over a few days he was sneezing a bit more than usual(no sneezing attacks though) - no discharge coming out. And he would also cough lightly for fifteen seconds after he would drink water. The vet said he looked fine and the sneezing stopped but the coughing after drinking still persists. He also breathes pretty rapidly since wev had him (6 weeks) but I'm told kittens breathe rapidly. Then a few days ago Luna's eye was winking and squinting and had a more yellowish discharge coming out of the one eye. No sneezing or coughing. Vet prescribed the gel we squeeze on her eye for conjunctivitis. Sasuke doesn't have it as bad as her, just the same brown discharge, but both his eyes seem to be squinting a bit more but I might be paranoid. Should I use the gel on his eyes too? Or should I wait and see if his eyes get worse?

Im on cat forums all day and at the vet constantly because our last kitten died of FIP and we only had her for twelve days :( so I watch them like a hawk. Thanks guys for any help.

Hi there!

Losing one to fip is most definitely hard, very hard. It's so unexpected and random, sorry to hear.

But I understand and surely everyone else here does that it causes you to be extra alert to your new pair.

If the gel is an antibiotic like terramycin or zythromycin then sure.

HOWEVER, a big reason why I will squirt the med onto my finger or surface then swipe it up with my finger is because if you are using the tube and squeezing a ribbon onto the eye, it may be contaminated, and the one with the not-so-bad eyes will have the same bacteria as the worse one.

Thank you so much!!
It's Erythromycin Ophthalmic ointment .5%

If nothing's wrong with him is it still safe/okay to give him? His eyes aren't even close to as goopy as hers like I said. He did sneeze a few times today
