My beautiful blue norwegian forest cat, Kovu, has recently fallen pregnant. She is almost two years old and this is her first pregnancy, as well as mine. I know the stud, he is an absolute perfect specimen, though the pregnancy itself is a result of my lack of money and Kovu's keen intelligence. I found Kovu as a kitten. He was a stray with an immense flea infestation and the worst ear-mites I've ever seen. I got her cured of both and got all her shots, but unfortunately have not had the money for a spay. I tried to keep her indoors, but she discovered how to use the dog door and I really don't know how to solve that problem. There's only one unneutered male cat around, no one knows who he belongs to, but he's BEAUTIFUL and I call him Theodore. The two of them are both probably the most gorgeous cats I've ever seen and I can't help but be slightly excited to see how their kittens are going to turn out.

ANYWAYS, the reason why I'm making this post!

I didn't know Kovu was pregnant, though I understood it was only a matter of time. I have no clue when they could have been conceived, the only way I know Kovu is pregnant now is her stomach is HUGE and her nipples are swollen and pink. Kovu has always been a to-herself and independent cat, but she started hanging around the garage often and seemed to be creating a nest. I know Kovu well and know that little turd would have her babies in the most inconvenient place possible. Due to Kovu's extreme agility, the only way I could contain her in a well watched spot is in my large dog kennel. I gave it pillows and blankets, a litter box, food and water, and covered it with a sheet. She loves it in there and has spent the last two days sleeping and eating. She's not acting restless, not making noise, just sleeping.

Kovu has always been a quiet, lazy, and gluttonous cat; though she has always kept a healthy weight. So there is the SLIGHT doubt in my mind that she MAY have just gained a sudden surplus of weight. EVERYONE who sees her says she's pregnant, but I haven't taken her to a vet for an ultrasound or anything because, again, no money. I decided I would try to figure out for myself if Kovu is in fact about to have kittens by getting a oral/rectal thermometer. I read normal cat temp is 101-102* and that it would drop the closer she gets to beginning labour (At 99* it should begin within 24 hours). I wanted to make sure the thermometer is accurate so first,

My normal temp (Orally)- 98.2*

My normal, neutered cat- 101.6*

Then, my pregnant girl (Last night, 24 hours ago)- 100.4*

THEN, just now- 99.6*

Most notably, she's having no outstanding symptoms. Her appetite is normal, drinking regularly, constant sleeping- As if she's not even pregnant. Her nipple are rose-pink and swollen, no milk production or dry milk has been seen. Her stomach is large and has appeared to have dropped. Upon gentle stroking of the stomach, I feel strange lumps but no movement. There's not excessive grooming, but there does seem to be some dried fluid around her vaginal area.

Sigh

SO, to summarize. I have a cat, 99% sure she's pregnant, but I'm inexperienced. She does seem very far along and her temp is dropping, but not much other symptoms. I'm getting eager and would like to know what you guys think. Is she definitely pregnant? (I need reassurance). How far along do you think she is? How much longer do you think it will take for labour to begin? Is her temp dropping a sure sign she's close?

Thank you, everyone! I hope to hear back!

It certainly sounds like she's pregnant. Unfortunately, your pictures are not showing up and the links don't work. You can embed them in your posts by using the "image" icon in the tool bar above the Reply box. (Not the paper clip attachment).

Did you felt her tummy long enough to be sure you havent yet felt any kitten movements?

In that case my guess it is at least two weeks more.  As you shall feel kittens move at least 2 weeks before the delivery.   Good palpitators can feel it up to 3 weeks before delivery.

If you had only now felt her, and you are sure she is high preg, may come any day - a probable guess she has dropped now, and you dont feel them as much anymore.   The delivery should come in at most 48 hours, perhaps less.

Where do you live?  Ie  if you or we can find a cheap spaying clinic for you...  The same cheap place may probably do other vet treatmensts cheaper than an ordinary vet.

Good luck!

Well, last night after I logged off, she laid her stomach on my hand and I felt a TON of movement and kicking. Now this morning, there seems to be more dried fluid around her vagina and she keeps tossing around like she can't get comfortable. Her breathing his fast and shallow and her tongue is sticking out of her mouth... It's really cute! I think they're coming...:) And yes, I'll have to figure something out, I need to get her spayed after this for sure. Thanks for the links!:)
