Hi everyone,I and new here and hoping that someone can help me understand what is wrong with my cat.

Lulu is a year an a half old persian cat. She had been diagnosed with fugal infection on her skin and fur about a month ago. The vet whom I would always take her to gave her some shots that reacted horribly and the moment I got her home she was not able to breath and was sticking her tounge out like dogs. I rushed her back the same time and they gave her some glucose shots. She was back to breathing fine after 3-4 hours but that experience shook me up. I thought she was going to die and Ive had her since she was a month old!.

However, I had to take her to a vet since I have noticed a ringworm on my arm and I am certain its Lulu.

I took her to another vet this time and she said that since Lulu is incredibly weak, she cant handle shots or oral medication. The vet gave me some vitamin syrup and gentian violet to apply on her skin and said id have to shave her off and get her to have a medicated bath. This would be the 2nd time i have gotten Lulu shaved and asked the grooming person to apply the meds on her skin. But ever since she came home, she is not walking. She is barely able to pick herself up. She just crawls under my bed. I tried to get her to eat or drink but she is not doing that either. When I picked her up and put her on my lap, she put her front paws on the ground in an effort to get off my lap but it seemed like she had no energy and just fell on the ground and didnt bother to pick herself up.
I am extermly worried and cant stop crying. Will she be okay? It is stress or something serious? I cant take her to any ER now since its past midnight at my country and no vet would be open. Could anyone please help me please .....

That is a bizarre reaction to grooming and topically applied medication.  Since an ER vet isn't possible where you are I would trying getting some glucose 'sugar' into her.  Anything that has sugar in it like honey, making sugar water, even pancake syrup.  You can syringe it into the side of her mouth, ideally the cheek pocket.  Normally I would say to take her to a vet but since that isn't an option and the last time they gave her glucose then it's worth a shot.  This does sound like it is possibly a low blood sugar type reaction.

I would get her checked over by a feline specialist if possible, this is just a really bizarre over reaction.

Thank you so much for replying. I just spent the last hour holding her in my arms and she is still not responding well..not able to get up on her legs or even lift up her head without support:(

Ill try mixing some water with sugar and giving it to her. Thanks once again

Hi Lulu's Mum, I'm sorry to hear that you are going through this. Try giving all the vets in your area a call and leaving a message on their answering machines. Most vets will have a second number you can call in an emergency even if they are not an ER vet.

You might find something on here that will give you an alternative way to dealing with Lulu's ringworm.

http://www.thecatsite.com/t/210789/6-things-i-learned-from-our-ringworm-plague-book-length

It's a very long thread, something to read through once Lulu has recovered from her reaction.

Hope she's feeling better soon.

Hi Norachan, thanks for the response. Sadly, here in UAE there are no vet clinics open at this time. Even if i did call, most probably they wont reply back to the answering machine till late afternoon since friday is a public holiday.

Thanks for the article, will surely have a read through.

I tried doing as Denice suggested and gave her some water mixed with sugar using a syringe. She didnt put up a fight which worried me. Since she was taking in the fluid i decided to put just plain water in the syringe and give her that but she didnt like it and put her face away. What could that mean?

Most cats don't like being given anything through a syringe, they put up a fight whatever you try and give them.

It's a good idea to keep trying to get some fluids and sugar into her though, even if you just manage a little bit every hour.

How is she doing now?

Still the same :( sorry for the delay in response as I was giving her some sugar water again. My vet should open in another 2 hours. Will make sure to be the 1st one there.

Thank you for your concern. Please pray for my baby :(

I am sorry I don't know the initials for the abbreviation of where you are. Could you write where it is? I would assume it isn't in the US. I don't understand the treatments that were done with her. Ringworm, if that is what it is, is a fungal spore so one of the last things you want to do is shave her because it sends the spores everywhere into the environment.

So, first things first. Ringworm will not kill your cat. Sure you need to get rid of it but it isn't the most important thing on your cats health list right now.

I know it is on your arm and for that you need to see a human doctor and I can't advise you to use any over the counter products such as an athletes foot cream or anything like that. So see your own doctor for that.

Your cat is very ill. It could be a heart condition or something else. Anytime you get a cat wet it stresses them. Don't do any more baths or grooming for now.

Tell me about your cat

How old?

Spayed?

How long with the skin ?

Which vaccines?

When were they done?

Indoor cat?

Anything that could pertain to your cats health. Anything at all

How is her breathing now? You need to keep her quiet, sternal and in a dark place. If she is open mouth breathing see if you can happen to see the color of her gums or tounge. Don't bug her though. You need to keep her stress free right now. No loud noises etc. Does she feel cool to the touch?

Did they actually say they gave her dextrose at the vets or did they say fluids? Did they do any blood work? What did they say they thought was wrong with her? Did they put her on any oxygen?

Maybe you are already on your way to the vet and didn't log off. I hope that is the case as she does need to see a vet ASAP. And for now don't let them treat the ringworm and if they do want to you should find another vet as it sounds like your cat is very ill and that is the least of her problems. I will check back before I log off tonight.

Hi sorry i was calling up a couple of vets but only got through one who said she might be diabetic and sounds like she is not doing to well.

UAE is united arab emirates. Home to the tallest bldg in the world burj khalifa. I am in sharjah which is a city in UAE.

Her breathing seems to have been okay after the glucose shot that day and this problem never happened again. I am not worried about the ringworm as of now for her or for me. I just cant figure out what is going on and how to make her feel okay again. I swear time goes by like a snail in times like these. Still another hour till the vet is open. Any suggestions on what I could do till then? She is in my room under the bed. I have wrapped her in a cloth since I feel she might be cold as she doesnt have any fur on her anymore. She doesnt seem to be cold or hot to the touch though.

Not sprayed. Thick long fur. 100% indoor cat. Last vaccine was rabies i believe about a month ago. No blood work done ever. She is very weak and doesnt like to eat anything besides raw or boiled chicken. Hasnt gone to the loo since the come back from the vet yesterday.

As long as she can get out of the blanket if she wants to that is fine. She probably feels safest under the bed. How old is she? Is she on any medication? She has not been diagnosed as a diabetic right? Do you have a glucometer at home? Is anyone in your family diabetic?

She is a year and a half old. No one diabetic at home. She is not responding to anything now. Not even on hearing her name. Not on any medication

What was her health like before she went to the vet? Was she healthy before her first visit for ringworm?

She could be having a reaction to the gent violet. Did they tell you what they used wash her in or dip her in where you got her groomed? Was that at the vet or a groomer? When you picked her up from there was she okay or was she obviously in distress?

Do you have a digital thermometer? You can turn it on and lay it gently under her arm as she is laying and make sure there is skin on each side of it. Don't upset her but if she lets you just lay it in the fold of her arm. Wait for the beep and see what the temp is.

Just take her now to the vet. Be there when they open. sometimes people get in early. OR call back the vet tell them she is unresponsive and you need a vet now.

You have to get her in somewhere. I would call as you are going out the door with her. Wait in their parking lot if you must and call mmediately when you get to their parking lot so they know you are there. She sounds very ill. I hope you get her in there soon. Please be safe on your trip there and I wish you all the luck in the world with her. Check back after vet and update please. But she needs a vet now
