I'm currently in the middle of a move as is apparently a good portion of my neighborhood. Sunday I heard a cat calling outside that sounded like mine and went to see if my indoor only cat had managed to escape while the door was open. No, not my Foxxi. But this cat is a black version of her. Both are female tortoise shell but Foxxi is tan. Another difference, Foxxi is fixed. The black tort who I've taken in and called Crystal, is quite obviously pregnant. I have never had a pregnant cat before. They all get fixed at 4-5 months.

Crystal, according to a few neighbors, appeared a couple weeks ago when the family across the street moved out, and is believed to be abandoned. She is sweet, loving, and gets along with my cats and dogs very well. I left her outside for the first few days, teaching her how to climb in and out through a missing window on my enclosed porch. I've been providing her food, water, treats, and affection. Apparently I am now her pet human.

So... like I said I'm moving. And I'm taking Crystal with me. There is a local organization here that will spay or neuter cats, 4 months and older, for $10. I've lready been in contact and they will do Crystal and her entire litter for me. I have a loving, responsible home for one kitten already, My boyfriend has been looking for a cat for quite some time and just fell in love with her, so when the time comes he will be taking one home. I am fully prepared, and capable of, keeping any who do not find a home. (I love my electric litter box).

I had her to the vet for a microchip, and one wasn't found. Crystal got a free check up because apparently there aren't too many who will take in an expectant stray. It was decided that she's healthy and somewhere around a year in age. No complications are expected.

Is there anything I should know? Besides a box, and a quiet area, and make her comfortable? I've never been through this.

Thank you for any advice.

Hi welcome to TCS!
It is wonderful of you to take her in. No not very many people take in strays let alone a pregnant one. Just remember that your crystal can get pregnant again while she is nursing her kittens, so it would be better if you could keep her inside. Are you planing on having her give birth at you house, or are you taking her to the vet? If she is going to have them at your house, then Brush up on how to help your cat with a breech birth. For the most part she wont need your help. She will know exactly what to do when the time comes. With that being said, if she has a bigger kitten she might need a little help with the delivery if it is breech. Someone on here will supply you  with links so you can read about what to expect. It is a wonderful thing to watch and be a part of. Good luck!

My cats are all indoor cats and Crystal will be no exception. I'm still holding out hope that she has lost her way and her family will see her. I intend to allow her to give birth at home as by that point she will have been through so many changes as it is that I don't want to stress her. I have found some wonderful links and info on this site which is why I joined. Foxxi was a rescue, a four day old litter of six and the local cat rescue helped me immensely with the care of them (her mom was hit by a car).

I wasn't aware that she could get pregnant while nursing, I know though that they can reproduce at 4 months. I was also told to give her kitten food and milk replacer. Which one is best? I buy Purina for mine but she seems partial to dog food.

Good. It is nice to know that there are people out in the world that will still help an animal in need. She indeed can get pregnant again while nursing. After she has the babies she will probably want outside but o matter what don't do it. For my queen I give her Taste of the wild   all stages cat food. Another good one is   Chicken soup for the cat lovers soul   kitten stage.
