I wouldn't give it to her if she's not showing any symptoms.  You don't want to give them needlessly.  Did you get the Little Noses drops?  That should help with their congestion and try warming up wet food just a bit to enhance the aroma.  I also add plain meat baby food to my kitties' food when they're sick as they seem to respond well to that.  I water down their regular food/baby food mixture with plain baby pedialyte to help with electrolytes and hydration.

The vet gave me some drops that they've been responding very well to. I've also been warming up their food, but usually Butters will just go over to check out what it is and then walk away. I will have to try the baby food. I hope he starts to eat soon because feeding 3 cats by syringe is quite stressful!

I have a couple more questions. If the kittens are better by October 3rd, would it be okay to take them to get spayed since there would be so many other cats around them? I am also worried that they will get sick again when they come home from the facility, due to stress. Is this a valid concern? I am also afraid that eventually, when they are given away to new homes, (we are keeping Boots & Butters, the rest are probably going), they will become sick again.

Is it typical that the first time they contract the illness will be the worst for them? If they get sick a second time will their body fight it off more easily, and will they have less severe symptoms? I haven't been able to find out much about that & I'm hoping someone could inform me. Thanks

If they are well then I would get them spayed, provided they are fully healed.  You can't prevent them from being around other cats but getting a URI at a private vet hospital is unlikely.

They will be going to a low cost spay/neuter facility, (that's where the other 2 got the virus) I don't have the money to get them all spayed at a private vet especially after the vet bills for the other 2. After all of this is said and done it probably would have been cheaper to take them to a private vet in the first place, but I guess live & learn.

They should be immune to the virus, having already had it. That's how viral illnesses usually work. If their immune systems are still run down from being sick they might catch something else, though, which is why they should recover completely before going in for their surgery if possible.

I've read that once cats have the herpes virus, it stays in them forever & symptoms can be triggered by stress. That's what I was asking about (sorry about the confusion). If the symptoms come back, would they be less severe?

If it was herpes you can reduce the severity or frequency of repeat infections by adding l-lysine to the diet, a pinch in the food daily for life.  L-Lysine interrupts the replication of the herpes virus.  And yes stress can trigger it.

Just as an update, Boots is back to normal but Butters is still not eating on his own. When I put food out in front of him, no matter if I heat it up etc. he doesn't show the slightest bit of interest in it. He doesn't really sound congested anymore and he's back to acting normal (besides not eating). I guess he needs more time; at least he is very cooperative with the syringe feeding.

I've also been feeding 2 of the other kittens who got the virus. One has it really bad and seems so weak. She hasn't shown a whole lot of improvement despite being given antibiotics the past 3 days. She needs to go in to get fluids because she is pretty dehydrated and it's hard to keep up with her needs. She is drooling a TON, and probably half of the food I syringe into her mouth gets drooled back out. Anyone know of a good way to control this? I've been mixing pedialyte into their food to give her an extra boost of hydration since she is difficult to force feed.

Sometimes the antibiotics can upset their tummies, so try offering him both wet and dry food.  You don't want him to go without eating for more than one mealtime.  Are you still giving him the appetite stimulant?  Get the other little one into the vet ASAP.  She might need to be kept so they can give her fluids and nutrition via IV.

Planned on taking her to the vet today, but she and her sister seem to be doing a lot better today! The antibiotics must have really kicked in today. They were up and walking around the house, and since we finally had a sunny day today they perched up on the window sill and soaked in some sun.

In response to your suggestion, they have dry food out constantly and get canned food in the morning and in the evening, so he must still not have any appetite; but it's kind of weird because he'll go in the bathroom and meow like he WANTS me to syringe feed him! Surely he can't prefer that now can he?? Lol

Also, I haven't been giving them the appetite stimulant. I didn't like the side effects and it didn't seem to help his appetite; Boot's is eating a lot on her own now, so she doesn't need it. I actually just saw him eat a couple bites of the wet food I gave to Boots, and some of the dry food was gone out of the dish since this morning. This could be due to Boots or Butters, but I'm really hoping it was him who ate it and he's just not hungry right now because of it. Should I take the dry food away for the night and see if he has an appetite for wet food in the morning, just to verify if he'll eat a substantial amount or not?

How are they doing now?

Sorry for the lack of response, my internet at home went out so I haven't been able to log on until now.

Butters is now eating on his own. It was like something clicked in him that made him go from uninterested to crazy for food! I was just petting him after I tried to give him food, and then next thing I know he is running to the food dish pushing Boots out of his way so he can eat what was left. After all the wet food was gone, he ate some dry food as well. I'm just glad I'm down to feeding 2 now.

One of the sick kittens is a lot better and acting really normal and energized again, but still doesn't quite want to eat on her own. I offered her some wet food, but she wasn't interested. I actually got her to eat a couple bites of dry food, but I think she was just swallowing the pieces whole so I didn't want to encourage it too much (I think she's having a little trouble chewing, some of her baby teeth have come out without replacements yet). I think that is also part of the reason the sicker kitty is drooling so much too. The sicker kitty still has a ways to go in getting better. The good thing is that I've been seeing her drink water on her own, so she's not totally helpless. She will even go over to the food bowl and stare at the food, but she always decides she doesn't want any.

Somehow the last kitten hasn't gotten sick still, and I'm guessing she won't. She is the runt of the litter, but she was the first born - is there any connection there to a stronger immune system? She's literally been sneezed on, rubbed on the sick cats, etc. and hasn't gotten sick. Definitely not complaining!

I know your post was from like 2014. but when i googled my cats symptoms after noticing 1 eye constantly watering and she kept sneezing your post came up and yes you are not alone! exact same symptoms here! Glad I found this thread because I was worried. She got a LOT of shots on Friday, FVRCP included and started showing symptoms on Monday. She DID run into the wall face first on the same Monday she started showing symptoms while she was hyper and running around, but she's not throwing up, dizzy, or acting weird in any way aside from being hot and lazy/sleepy in this monster heat wave we're having where I am ( hottest it's been here on record EVER ) Her poops are normal and she's eating normally and keeping hydrated.

I have Anxiety so I ALWAYS fear the worst and jump the gun rushing her to a vet and spending $100's when it's not necessary, her shots already cost me $175 and she's going to be boarding with the hospital at $16 a day for 11 days while I go on vacation to visit some family so I can't really afford to rush her back (unless she's showing SERIOUS symptoms which she's not) and have the vet treat her like a car and find things to charge me for. She's indoor and never had fleas and I already had to talk them out of giving her a Flea dose that lasts a full year when she only needs flea prevention for the time she's boarding...wanted to charge me an extra $90 for that flea prevention -_-

tl;dr thanks for giving me some peace of mind :p and yes i've been keeping an eye on her monitoring her symptoms and will continue until we leave for vacation which is still about 2 weeks away.
